The devs are looking into why the free upgrade isn't working so hopefully the problem will be fixed soon.

World War Z: Aftermath has expanded once more today, with the addition of the new Horde Mode XL, a large-scale twist on the classic co-op PvE mode, with “special” XL waves of more than 1,000 zombies. The new mode is available exclusively on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Promising an “overwhelming challenge”, Horde XL puts developer Saber Interactive's Swarm Engine through its paces, while owners of World War Z: Aftermath and World War Z across all platforms can enjoy a free update featuring new mutators for the standard Horde Mode Z mode. The update also includes a revamped weapon progression system.
The dual-wielded sai knives melee weapon and the tri-barrel shotgun are also included in the free update as new weapons, and, a native version of World War Z: Aftermath is now available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, priced $39.99/£34.99, alongside a Deluxe Edition for $49.99/£44.99, bundling the Explorer Weapons Skin Pack, as well as the Sledgehammer and Dual Cleavers as bonus melee weapons.
