Typical. It's been little more than an hour since we reported on the rumour that Sonic Origins Plus will be coming this June, and now, SEGA has officially confirmed that the upgrade to last year's Sonic the Hedgehog compilation is indeed on the way.

As per the earlier report, Sonic Origins Plus will include all twelve Sonic the Hedgehog titles released for the SEGA Game Gear during the ‘90s, as well as the ability to play as Sonic’s love interest Amy Rose in Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD. Knuckles will also be playable in Sonic CD.

The selection of 12 Game Gear games will be added to Sonic Origins' Museum, emulated and fully playable, and will be available alongside Amy Rose in all four games and Knuckles in Sonic CD as an upgrade for existing owners of the collection, or as a standalone bundle. As well as a digital release, a ‘premium’ physical release will also be dropping, with a 20-page artbook, reversible coversheet with brand-new artwork, and all DLC.

Here are the 12 Game Gear titles that will be added for Sonic Origins Plus:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog (1991)
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992)
  • Sonic Chaos (1993)
  • Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine (1993)
  • Sonic Drift (1994)
  • Sonic Spinball (1994)
  • Sonic Triple Trouble (1994)
  • Sonic Drift 2 (1995)
  • Tails’ Skypatrol (1995)
  • Tails Adventure (1995)
  • Sonic Labyrinth (1995)
  • Sonic Blast (1996)

Sonic Origins Plus will be coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on 23rd June (Sonic's birthday), priced $39.99/£34.99 for the digital version. The Sonic Origins Plus Expansion Pack upgrade will cost $9.99/£7.99.

  • Emulated, because noone trusts them to do it any other way.

Kind of sad we dont have the other Megadrive games though, or the option for the Master System versions.
  • How many times is a Sonic collection going to be released
  • hopefully more DLC to finish of the remaining retro sonic games, Advance series, master system, missing genesis games, then hopefully move onto a 3D sonic collection.
  • Will there be extra trophies?
  • Great upgrade price.
