Resident Evil 4 Comparison - Resolution vs. Frame Rate: Which is Better?

This time next week, you'll be able to play the full version of the Resident Evil 4 remake, so if you've squeezed everything you can out of the Chainsaw Demo, like the Mad Chainsaw Mode and bonus weapons, you can leave the village behind and explore other areas.

But before you get into all that, you'll need to decide whether you'd prefer to play through Resident Evil 4 in the default Frame Rate mode, or enjoy the increased resolution of the, erm, Resolution mode. Both have their pluses and minuses, and we're here to break them both down across all consoles.

Resident Evil 4 launches on 24th March for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and you can give our comparison a look below - it's not as cut-and-dry as you might think. If it's a Resident Evil 4 review you seek, then click the blue bit.

  • Silly question in my opinion, always framerate when available. I used to be in the "more pixels", "more textures", etc = better camp, then us console gamers started being given a choice last gen and feeling and seeing 60FPS(and now in select scenarios 60+ FPS) there is no going back to 30FPS when giving the option. Half the time most people would be hard pressed to see a difference between a native resolution image and a reconstructed one, unless you are DF and going to sit there taking photo's, then zooming 10x just to nit pick instead of actually playing the game.
  • Frame rate for me too, don't see any difference with the resolution mode.
  • Frame rate for noobs, resolution mode is way to go.
  • 30 fps for the noob.

Have you played Demon Soul on PS3? obvious not, otherwise you would't say that. 30 vs. 60 fps is no big different if your eyes get to used to it, the 60 fps its matter when playing too much serious or in PVP not for smooth game-play or lower lags. So yeah, frame rate for noobs because you want something easy like noobs. Does this make sense?

There is a typo on my reply at " or lower lags" actually the 60fps can reduce almost half 30fps of input lags.
