NiGHTS into Dreams Officially Confirmed For PSN

Richard Walker

SEGA has confirmed that 1996 SEGA Saturn classic NiGHTS into Dreams is indeed coming to the PlayStation Network, as suggested by a teaser image shown on the publisher's Facebook page on Tuesday. And as we predicted, today's July 5th announcement marks the game's sixteen year anniversary. Yay for us.

“The SEGA Saturn offered many unique gaming experiences, and NiGHTS into dreams… stands out as one of the most recognisable titles that found a home on the system,” said SEGA's Digital Business VP Chris Olson. “We’ve gotten a lot of requests about this game over the years, and are very happy to be able to give both former Saturn owners and new players a chance to play it in its most beautiful form to date this fall.”

NiGHTS into Dreams on PSN will see the innovative 3D gameplay and its rendition of Nightopia revamped in glorious HD with a new 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, as well as leaderboard support and of course, trophies. There'll even be an additional Saturn Mode, in which you can play the original version in all its untouched glory. Fantastic news all round then.

NiGHTS into Dreams will be hitting PSN this fall. Pricing has yet to be confirmed, but there's a lovely announcement trailer for you to watch.

  • Hope it's free, I've never played Nights but I want
  • Just had a baby!!!!!
  • This is awesome! I saw Japan got it on the PS2 and I got a bit peeved. But now that it's coming in an HD remake to the PS3/360 I am happy. :)
  • This is great news. Nights was a great game back at the time. Now that we can get Sega Saturn games remade lets see if if we can get Sonic CD an HD remake!
  • #4 Sonic CD already got a remake on the 360/PS3.
  • Panzer Dragoon Zwei next! Make it happen SEGA!
  • @ my comment #4. My fault. I meant sonic R. Fail on my part
  • Sweet! I do like playing NiGHTS and Christmas NiGHTS on my Saturn with the clunky 3D controller but perhaps I better sell those 2 games before this becomes common knowledge and the game drops drastically like has happened with all PS1 releases. I hope they don't get Panzer Dragoon though... Paid £150 for that so if the Saga is put on PSN it's value would plummet and I'd be rather fucked :(
  • @8 - I love for them to do the Panzer Dragoon games in full HD etc but Panzer Dragoon Saga will never happen as Sega has lost the source code so they would have to make the game from scratch which will never happen. I really want the Shenmue games though and hope they will make the third! It would be amazing if part three was next gen!
  • This game was crap on release and I can't see it being any better second time around
  • @9. Thank god, although shame the codes lost. @10. The game is so unique and with that comes a certain taste. It's certainly not a game for everyone taste wise but there is no way it's crap.
  • Awesome news Nights is a unique kinda of game and one of the best exclusive games the Saturn had, i just hope more Saturn and Dreamcast games are in the making for either the PS3 or Vita, enough with Megadrive/Genesis colections releases and re-releases.
  • Did the original have that internal clock that would sometimes change it into something like Christmas Nights? If so, I hope it makes it into this version.
  • @12. Yeh, I'd love to see shining force iii come out, and with English versions of scenario 2 and 3. Great for those who don't want to fork out £100's on the rare games, sucks for those who own them and will have their value drastically reduced.
