Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City Sells in Excess of 2 Million Copies

Despite a poor critical reception, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City has sold around 2 million copies, according to Capcom.

As detailed in the publisher’s annual financial report, the Slant Six shooter sold 1.7 million units in the period from release to the end of the financial year, 31st March. Add in subsequent sales - 269,000 in its first week in Japan, plus a further five weeks at US and European retail from April until now, and the game will have comfortably eclipsed the 2 million mark.

Capcom’s financial report also provided figures for a number of its other titles, including Street Fighter X Tekken. The crossover fighter has sold 1.4 million copies since its launch in March. Decent numbers.

However, not even the surprising performance of Raccoon City could save Capcom’s year from disappointment. The publisher’s net sales were down 16 per cent year-on-year to ¥82 billion, while operating income fell 13.8 per cent to ¥12.3 billion.

We’re sure Resident Evil 6 will turn those frowns upside down.

" That'll teach them to stop being greedy with DLC, and realizing that we aren't a bunch of fools that are here to be tricked by their dirty business ways, and we won't buy their crap full of disk-locked content and
  • overpriced content. Sorry for double post, I clicked post too soon
  • As much as I loved this game, I'm really surprised to how well it sold. I mean, I like the game, but even I'm not blind to it's flaws.
  • Woot woot! Now give me my Echo six expansion 2 please...
  • I platted the game the other night and quite frankly it was fun to play and I didnt do the echo six missions. I was a bit pissed off after watching the trailers and I was under the impression there would be two sides to the campaign. I know I wasn't the only one who was disappointed by this, but honestly Capcom, I know you are releasing the special edition of RE6 with Leon's reprint jacket, but if you charge the poor soul who buys that for DLC, you are in the wrong. Rant over
  • actually this is sad an ok game like this sells 2 M where as awesome games like vanquish and Bayonetta sells like crap now a days people just buy games for their names
  • @3 Every game has their flaws. Personally, the multiplayer was a real issue with me and my friends. Every few minutes we would have to log out and back in and if we did not chose a map quickly as it went to the title screen, we would never get in a match. The new patch fixed that though. Also the chances I get into a glichy match was reduced greatly. So the game is better now. But still needs improvement. Im sad that Bayonneta 2 has a chance to disappear, but you got to enjoy what you got, even though the sequel would be awesome.
  • How can they not realize that Monster Hunter is the key to success? What the fuck are they waiting for? PS3, PSVita I don't give a shit! Just release it already! I'll even import it they decide to make a Japan exclusive! PLEASE CAPCOM?
  • Maybe if they wouldn't release the same titles two to three times with "special editions" *cough*StreetFighter4andprettymucheverythingelse*cough* they might actually make something.
  • @8 totally agree. Monster hunter on ps2 had me held for a long time. Be nice to see one on ps3.
  • That's what the gaming industry in 2012 is all about - put out a s*** game and count on it selling well based on name recognition alone.
  • I bought the game the day it came out.. still have it since I have to own every resident evil, but it there was no resident evil being stamped on the box, I would have traded it back day one. It's sitting there on the shelf, uncompleted. Sadly the game have too much flaws to keep me playing it. And, menu music is simply awefull, can't stand it.
  • Just a random thought but Brink sold 2 mill......and It sucked to
  • awesome just awesome i love this game
  • I've been avoiding all Slant Six games since their first Socom.
  • @13 Proof that proper marketing can do wonders for sales of any game.
  • 2million units and the game pretty much sucked. Imagine how many if it had been good.
  • personally i think, while the game does have it's flaws, and clearly had the echo six campaign missions ripped out of the game to sell as DLC, i think a lot of people are heaping too harsh a criticism on it because it has the resident evil name, and as such has a certain reputation to live up to, and also because a lot of people are under the impression it is made solely by capcom, rather than slant six Either way it is what it is, a game that has its flaws but can also be fun at times If capcom really want to start making money again though.... BRING BACK DINO CRISIS!!!
  • @#7 I actually had problems in about like 3% of my online games, and I haven't played since the patch. My experience with ORC was positive, but I'm just saying that I can totally see the faults of this game.
  • @fragpus I agree with the dlc comment
