CD Projekt RED has declared that it's enjoyed its best ever third quarter, thanks in no small part to a resurgence in interest around Cyberpunk 2077, presumably off the back of the game's major 1.6 Edgerunners update (and no doubt the Edgerunners Netflix anime series itself), which buoyed daily player numbers to over one million.
In turn, Cyberpunk 2077 has gone on to sell over 20 million copies, as of September 2022, and during that quarter, CD Projekt Group racked up revenues of $54.2 million (245.5 million PLN) for total profits of $21.8 million (98.7 million PLN). The company's CFO, Piotr Nielubowicz, remarked (via VGC) that “strong sales” of Cyberpunk 2077 during Q3 contributed to an overall uptick in revenue - its strongest since the studio was founded in the 1990s.
Cyberpunk 2077's rocky launch in December 2020 seems to be in the rearview mirror now, then, and with the paid Phantom Liberty expansion due to release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2023, and a sequel codenamed ‘Orion’ in the works, it seems we'll be seeing a lot more Cyberpunk in the future.
