Cyberpunk 2077 Has Pushed CD Projekt RED Towards Record Third Quarter Profits

CD Projekt RED has declared that it's enjoyed its best ever third quarter, thanks in no small part to a resurgence in interest around Cyberpunk 2077, presumably off the back of the game's major 1.6 Edgerunners update (and no doubt the Edgerunners Netflix anime series itself), which buoyed daily player numbers to over one million.

In turn, Cyberpunk 2077 has gone on to sell over 20 million copies, as of September 2022, and during that quarter, CD Projekt Group racked up revenues of $54.2 million (245.5 million PLN) for total profits of $21.8 million (98.7 million PLN). The company's CFO, Piotr Nielubowicz, remarked (via VGC) that “strong sales” of Cyberpunk 2077 during Q3 contributed to an overall uptick in revenue - its strongest since the studio was founded in the 1990s.

Cyberpunk 2077's rocky launch in December 2020 seems to be in the rearview mirror now, then, and with the paid Phantom Liberty expansion due to release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2023, and a sequel codenamed ‘Orion’ in the works, it seems we'll be seeing a lot more Cyberpunk in the future.

  • Which they deserve. I started playing CP2077 with the ps5 patch. One of the best games I have played.
  • Yeah they botched the launch big time, but at least they fixed it.
I feel like it got too ambitious but hey that's a whole 'nother argument.
Eventually it got there, so good for them that it had a renewed interest and they got a proper go of it.
Hopefully lessons were learned and we don't find ourselves back here again......hopefully
  • I still don't see the hype, even after playing it.
  • I don't know what's more shocking, those figures or the comments from Isdrake and
Me0wschwitz07; 'It's fine to launch broken incomplete games that are still not finished as long as you launch patches years after release'.

Seriously, if anyone thinks that's normal or good you deserve a broken game.
  • @unger

You read what you want. I did not say what you quoted me.

I said i bought and played it when the ps5 patch was released. I had a great time obviously. I have no clue what the game was when it launched
  • Don't put words in my mouth Unger.
Nowhere did I say it was fine to launch games broken.
I merely commended them for fixing it.
Should it have launched broken - of course not. But that's what happened, and they're fixing it.
  • :)
  • @Isdrake and Me0wschwitz07, You know you can just read you own comments back right? "Which they deserve", 'but at least they fixed it.'

Also 'no clue what the game was when it launched'? Been living under a rock?
