PAC-MAN is Getting His Own Live Action Movie

Matt Lorrigan

PAC-MAN is the latest video game character to be getting his very own movie, Bandai Namco and Wayfarer Studios have announced.

The PAC-MAN film is planned to be live-action, and is based on an original story idea by Chuck Williams, associate producer on the successful Sonic the Hedgehog film. Wayfarer Studios will develop the film alongside Lightbeam Entertainment, Williams' own production company. Justin Baldoni, Manu Gargi, Andrew Calof, and Tracy Ryerson are due to develop on behalf of Wayfarer, while Williams will be joined by Tim Kwok to produce for Lightbeam.

PAC-MAN first hit arcades in 1980, with the ghostly maze proving a hit with players around the world. He's gone on to appear in several different genres of titles, but its his iconic ghost-gobbling games where he's at his best. How will this translate to the big screen? We'll have to wait a bit longer to find out.

In the meantime, PAC-MAN World Re-PAC is due to launch later this month, remastering the PS1 platformer for modern consoles. You can see a new comparison trailer for the game here.

  • Live Action? I don't imagine it will do a smidge past horrible.
  • What kind of a plot could this possibly have?
  • Also had my doubts when they announced the Sonic movie, but I thoroughly enjoyed both of them so I'll keep an open mind about this.
