Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon developer Inti Creates has announced Grim Guardians: Demon Purge, a side-scrolling 2D platformer featuring a demon hunting sister duo, who leave school only to return the next day and find a demonic gothic castle standing in its place.

Playing as both Shinobu and Maya Kamizono, you'll switch characters on-the-fly, using each of their unique skills to tackle the castle's challenging stages and formidable bosses. You can also find new routes through each stage using each sister's abilities, and use special 2-player co-op actions in battle.

With changing characters the key to Grim Guardians' gameplay, you'll be able to use elder sister Shinobu's submachine gun to handle demons at range, while Maya is able to spring from the shadows and attack with a variety of damage-dealing close-range weapons.

Grim Guardians: Demon Purge will also include a range of difficulty options, as well as  a ‘Style System’ that offers unique changes upon repeated playthroughs. A date for Grim Guardians: Demon Purge has yet to be set, but the game is slated for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

  • Looks great. I enjoyed both Curse of the Moon gamed and I believe these guys also make the Shantae series? They know how to make fun 2D games.
  • @Raggle101 Wayforward creates Shantae but an understandable inference.

Related, Metroidvania-style is my favorite genre so I'll definitely look into this once Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Curse of the Moon 1 and 2, and Guacamelee 2 are off my backlog.
