SEGA Commits to Fixing Sonic Origins Amid Ongoing Criticism

Richard Walker

SEGA has announced that it's committed to fixing Sonic Origins, amid ongoing criticisms of the game's release state. According to Sonic the Hedgehog Social Media Manager Katie Chrzanowski, a “variety of issues” are currently being addressed.

“Hey! Thanks for the patience! The team’s been listening and is working on fixing a variety of issues right now," Chrzanowski tweeted. "We’ll make sure to get some more official messaging out once we have more info for everyone.”

Said issues are to be found primarily in the collection's version of Sonic 3 & Knuckles, which include problems with collision detection and sound glitches, as well as muffled audio across all of the games featured. Other issues include strange AI behaviour for Tails and dodgy widescreen boundaries.

This all comes off the back of recent comments from Simon Thomley (aka Stealth), of Sonic Mania co-developer Headcannon, who claimed that much of its work on Sonic Origins wasn't what it submitted.

“I won't lie and say that there weren't issues in what we gave to SEGA, but what is in Origins is also not what we turned in," he said. “Integration introduced some wild bugs that conventional logic would have one believe were our responsibility - a lot of them aren't.”

Sonic Origins is now available for PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC, and you can read our review here.

  • Shame there even has to be so much criticism, just release a fixed game and you wouldn't have this issue.

  • @1: The developers really wanted to release a fixed game, it's just that SEGA forced it out early.
  • Case #2069272694 of executives thinking they are hot shit that know better, fucking everything up for everyone, and damaging their own brand in the process.
