Rockstar has announced it is making changes to how it supports Red Dead Online, with no new major content updates on the horizon as the developer prioritises GTA 6.

“Over the past few years, we have been steadily moving more development resources towards the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series — understanding more than ever the need to exceed players’ expectations and for this next entry to be the best it can possibly be — and as a result, we are in the process of making some changes to how we support Red Dead Online,” said Rockstar's official announcement.

Red Dead Online will continue to get special seasonal events and updates to improve the experience this year, but Rockstar will concentrate on building upon existing game modes and adding new Telegram Missions. The game will also get monthly events showcasing specialist roles, showdown modes, and more, but Red Dead Online will no longer receive “major themed content updates” as it did in previous years.

“Once again, we want to thank the community for their continued support. We are truly grateful for all the constructive feedback we’ve received up to this point and hope you keep it coming,” says Rockstar.

Rockstar officially revealed the existence of Grand Theft Auto 6 earlier this year, and it seems that development of the highly anticipated sequel is pulling a lot all of Rockstar's resources.

  • Makes sense, since GTAO is the cash cow.

Likely see a lot more emphasis on GTAO in GTA6 too.
Unless the do away with a conventional single player campaign completely, and just make the campaign playable online only. Like the standard missions in GTAO
  • Guess not enough people are buying gold bars or whatever microtransactions they got in Red Dead. They need more time to think of how they're gonna sell as many micro's in GTA VI with as little work as possible. I really miss the time R* would actually support games with single player content.
