Sea of Stars, the “retro-inspired” RPG prequel to side-scrolling adventure, The Messenger, has been delayed. Originally set for release sometime in 2022, following an enormously successfully Kickstarter campaign, Sea of Stars will now launch in 2023.

"As we are closing in on a very big milestone the road to launch becomes clearer, and we find ourselves here with large body of text and our logos at the bottom. Keeping in mind our two main priorities - quality of life for our team and quality of the finished game - we can now confirm that Sea of Stars will be released in 2023," a statement from developer Sabotage Studios reads.

"We understand waiting is a big ask, and want to sincerely thank our community for the overwhelming support and positive vibes. In the meantime, we are looking at options to get a playable slice out to everyone this year."

Featuring some rather lovely pixel art and turn-based RPG combat, Sea of Stars also has legendary Chrono Trigger composer Yasunori Mitsuda on board for the game's score. Sea of Stars will be coming to “PC and console” in 2023.

  • I read that this game comes only on steam and the Switch. Where does it say it comes to Playstation? And also this games looks absolutely gorgeous.
  • @1 The original Kickstarter said "Steam and Consoles" with the Switch version being added later on. I'd assume since it was plural already and Switch was announced by itself, that just means PS and Xbox.

I do see that their site only has the wishlist on Steam/Switch there, but it would be very strange to word things the way they did and only go to Switch. Especially when reaching 1224.155% of their Kickstarter goal.

Game looks pretty sick, kinda bummed I missed out on the back only physical edition and hope LRG put up a variant one later or something.
  • Aw, shucks.
