Hogwarts Legacy PS5-Specific Features Detailed in a New Trailer

Richard Walker

Developer Avalanche Software has detailed the PS5-specific features for Hogwarts Legacy, which aim to “immerse you in the wizarding world like never before". Apparently, this involves the DualSense controller becoming an “extension of your wand”, feeling the magic as you cast spells and that.

“Spells will feel unique when you cast them, thanks to haptic feedback providing a direct connection between the DualSense controller and your wand,” Community Manager Chandler Wood writes on the PS Blog. “We’ve specifically isolated these effects to the right side of the controller to let the DualSense become an extension of the wand you hold in the game. And when you deflect a spell with Protego, you’ll feel the sizzling of the magic being reflected and absorbed by the Shield Charm.”

Other actions like crushing ingredients using a pestle and mortar in Potions class, feeling the screech of a Mandrake seedling, or flying on your broom or on a Hippogriff will also have their own haptic feedback and adaptive trigger support, while the controller's light will flash and pulse as you cast spells or take damage, It'll even light up in the colours of your Hogwarts house.

Beyond DualSense features, the PS5 version of Hogwarts Legacy will have Fidelity and Performance modes to choose from, prioritising resolution or frame rate, while Tempest 3D AudioTech will offer a range of audio features. You'll be able to "hear the crackle of fire as you cast Incendio, potions bubbling in cauldrons, and the uniquely detailed soundscapes of each environment to really make you feel present,” according to Wood.

“And if you play without headphones, you’ll be treated to additional immersive sounds through the DualSense controller speaker, like the soft flap of a Hippogriff’s wings and effects of each spell you cast,” he adds.

Fast loading times, PS5 Activity Cards, and Game Help will also be supported. You can find out more about the features you'll find in the PlayStation 5 version of Hogwarts Legacy, when it launches in ‘holiday 2022’, in the trailer below.
