Sonic Origins Release Date Officially Announced With Gorgeous Animated Trailer

Matt Lorrigan

SEGA has officially announced that Sonic Origins will be launching in June, bringing with it four remastered Sonic the Hedgehog classics, as well as new content.

The four iconic SEGA Mega Drive titles - Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD - have been remastered for modern consoles, and players can choose between Classic and Anniversary modes for each game.  Classic Mode lets players experience the original games' 4:3 presentation, with limited lives and game overs, while Anniversary Mode gives players unlimited lives and a full-screen display.

On top of the new modes, players can take on various missions throughout each game, unlocking in-game medallions along the way. These medallions can then be used to unlock new content in the collection's museum, try the special stage, and more. There's even brand new animations included at the beginning and end of each game, as leaked earlier today, and you can see some of them in action in the trailer down below

Sonic Origins is launching on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on 23rd June 2022, which just so happens to be the exact date of Sonic's 31st anniversary. You can watch the official announcement trailer down below.
