EA Motive, the developer behind the upcoming Dead Space remake, has showcased a couple of changes it has made to weapon sounds, in response to feedback from fans. During last month's audio live stream,  one of the elements shown off included a look at some of the game's most recognisable weaponry.

In a comparison snippet posted to the official Dead Space Twitter, the developer shows how it has taken feedback on board, and beefed up the sound effects for the Plasma Cutter and Pulse Rifle. The footage features the original weapon sounds from the 2008 title, the sounds from the audio live stream, then the overhauled audio.

“When we showed you the Plasma Cutter and Pulse Rifle not everyone was sold on it, and there were a handful of criticisms that felt they could still be better,” Community Manager Caden House explains in a post on Reddit. “We believe that the feedback given was definitely valid and reading the comments on what was highlighted, we made a few modifications that we think improves it!”

House continues: “You’ll notice the Plasma Cutter frequency range has been rebalanced to focus more on the kick, as well as the lower end. Overall, this better aligns to that ‘feel’ that so many of you mentioned with the original.” He adds: “With the Pulse Rifle you can hear now that the rhythm is a bit more chaotic and not as tight as the previous version. There’s a bit more volume from the environmental reaction, as well as more feedback from surface impacts.”

You can compare the revamped audio for yourself in the clip below. The Dead Space remake is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in early 2023.

  • They do actually sound better.
  • I don't think anyone would notice without really listening to it side by side, but it's nice they're listening to feedback before launching the game.
