With FIFA and PES (now known as eFootball) dominating the video game football sphere for decades, a new pretender is set to arrive on the scene sometime this year. In development since 2016, UFL is a free-to-play Unreal Engine 4 footie game, coming to consoles soon.

Billed as a “revolutionary new global online football league,” UFL (Ultimate Football League) is in development at European studio ‘Strikerz, Inc’, with a goal of providing a “fair-to-play” experience for players. In UFL, you'll be able to create your own club, assembling your team from more than 5,000 licensed players.

Once you've built your club, you can then take it online to challenge other teams, and work your way up or, indeed down) the league tables. UFL will be furnished with regular updates, new features, and more post-launch, with Strikerz pledging to keep the game free of mandatory payments or annual subscription fees.

Roping in Man Utd and Portugal striker Cristiano Ronaldo as an ambassador, UFL will also make use of InStat tech and a partnership with FIFPRO for footballing authenticity, and to ensure players statistics are constantly updated. Deals with clubs like West Ham and Celtic have also been inked, meaning all that's left is a solid release date.

Reaching the “final stage of development”, UFL is due to launch sometime in 2022 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. An exact release date will be forthcoming soon, but until then, you can check out the gameplay presentation and IGN reveal below.
