Splitgate Beta Season 1 is due to launch next week, developer 1047 Games has announced, bringing with it new item and weapon designs, a new 100-level Battle Pass, new characters, game modes, and a custom map creator. The game's Foregone Destruction map is also set to be “completely reimagined”.

Evolution and One Flag Capture-the-Flag are the two new game modes set to be added to Splitgate for Season 1, while the addition of a mapmaker will enable anyone to create their very own map layouts, even enabling the co-creation and sharing of maps between friends. You can create and place objects, weapons, spawns, building blocks, portal walls, and other elements, with simple rotation and scenery that snaps together.

“Our custom map creator will continue to evolve alongside the rest of the game,” said1047 Games CEO Ian Proulx. “We’re looking at the map creator as an evolutionary tool driven by the community - it’s a robust feature for fans to play with day one of our new season, and we’re really interested in hearing feedback from the community regarding the types of features and tools they want.”

The Foregone Destruction map reimagining will entail a boost in fidelity, as well as a tweaked design, supporting the new round-based Evolution mode, wherein the losing team is furnished with an improved weapon loadout after each round. One Flag CTF, meanwhile, is a push and pull affair in which two teams take it in turns to defend of capture a single flag at the centre of the map.

As well as all of the above, Season 1 will also introduce the new 3v3 simulation map, Hotel, compatible with Takedown, Showdown, and Evolution modes. The new Battle Pass also promises a mix of free and paid content, including free weapon skins, and the colourful but deadly Rare Glitch Launcher.

Splitgate Beta Season 1 is due to launch for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC on 27th January.
