Dying Light 2 Will Feature 200+ Weapons That Can Wear Out and Break

Richard Walker

Techland has released another Dying Light 2 video focusing upon the game's weapons, revealing some additional details on the game's 200-odd machetes, clubs, and other bludgeoning or slicing tools, many of which will be makeshift implements comprised of scavenged scraps.

Following on from last month's Gamescom ‘Dying 2 Know’ video, Producer Szymon Strauss explains how the developer approached weapon design, with non-crafted weapons wearing out in the intervening years since the first Dying Light. That means any weapons that are still sharp or fit for purpose will come at a hefty price.

You can find out more about Dying Light 2's weapons, their durability, and the challenges that arose from designing said weapons in the latest trailer below. Dying Light 2 will be coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC on 4th February 2022.

  • Assuming it ever releases.
  • Equipment wear and breaking weapons is a total turn-off for me. All it does is adding anxciety and you not wanting to use this great weapon you just found, letting it rot in the inventory. Having to repeair your gear is just a pointless time and ressource sink that we should have been over by now.
  • @2. If they handle it the same as 1 it isn’t that big of a deal. I don’t care for the mechanic either but I don’t remember it ever being all that big of a hurdle.
  • 20 weapons with slight differences = "200 weapons".

I dont mind the deteriorating weapon mechanic if its done right though. Done right I actually enjoy it. Especially in a game like this.
  • Endless grind turns me off from games with weapon degradation.
