Square Enix and Koei Tecmo have revealed a new Final Fantasy spin-off titled 'Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, in development at Nioh and Ninja Gaiden studio Team Ninja, in partnership with FFVII Remake developers Tetsuya Nomura and Kazushige Nojima.

Described a “bold new vision” for Final Fantasy, Stranger of Paradise will feature “action-packed battles” in a new action RPG adventure. “With the memory of their struggle buried deep in their hearts... Jack and his allies, Ash and Jed, burn with resolve to defeat Chaos as they throw open the gates to the Chaos Shrine,” the press release reads.

“Yet doubts remain—are they truly the Warriors of Light the prophecy foretold?” You'll be able to find out the answer to this tantalising question when Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin launches for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC in 2022. Take a look at the announcement trailer below.

A limited-time trial version of Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin will also be available to download for PlayStation 5 from today until 24th June 2021.

  • I feel like they say chaos entirely too many times
  • @1, eight times in two and a half minutes. It was a bit much. Trailer looks bad, but I'll keep an eye on this one. Final Fantasy Soulslike sounds like a potentially good time.
  • This didn't look at all like Final Fantasy. I'll keep an open mind and hopefully this will be good when it releases in 2024.
  • Remember when Final Fantasy had likable, engaging characters instead of what can only be described as vexatious youtubers you'd forbid your kids to watch.
  • Characters strait out of some teenager's edgelord fanfiction.
  • This is pretty much a re-telling of the first Final Fantasy but extra edgy to appeal to westerners.
  • I'm westerner and I love ff and I hated this
  • Worst dialogue ever. Also demo completely broken. Talk about a sh*tshow
  • Pure Trash, nuff said.
  • Wow, the way the main character says chaos puts up my blood pressure ngl (also as mentioned how often lmao)
  • This looks completely stupid and I'm 100% down to play it. Now if only the demo worked. :(
  • Is he there to kill chaos? I can't tell
  • I knew Team Ninja would screw it up somehow, they can make games from their own IPs just fine, but when it comes to IPs from other studios, nope, complete mess every single time. I would've thought Square Enix would've learned not to get Team Ninja to do it after the Dissidia: Final Fantasy NT disaster, but I guess they didn't learn.

Not only does the gameplay look boring, the main character designs look so out of place for the world the original Final Fantasy was set in. I never thought I'd say this, but this actually makes FFXV look like a great game, and the characters make Noctis and co. seem much more tolerable.

Team Ninja should just stick to their own IPs like Dead or Alive, Nioh or Ninja Gaiden, it's obvious they're out of their depth when it comes to IPs owned by other studios, they've proven this at least twice already with Metroid: Other M and Dissidia: Final Fantasy NT.
  • Maybe a low budget Ff7
