Ubisoft has finally pulled back the curtain on Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, the big-budget adventure based on James Cameron's film series, and its coming to PlayStation 5 in 2022.

Taking place on the fictional planet of Pandora, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a first-person action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment studio, in collaboration with Disney and Lightstorm Entertainment. The game will be open world, and see you playing as a Na'vi, embarking on a journey across the Western Frontier, a never-before-explored area of Pandora. You'll come across exotic flora and fauna, as well as deadly RDA forces that you'll need to push back.

The game has been built using Ubisoft's latest snowdrop engine, and is being developed exclusively for the latest consoles and PC, meaning no release on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2022.

  • This was not expected! Wow! I had forgotten all about that Ubi was developing an open-world Avatar game. I'd honestly kind of forgotten all about Avatar too ...

Managing expectations because this is at this point a cool movie made with the game engine vs. the actual game, but this could be really good.

I just hope it is not the usual Ubisoft "climb tower to reveal map" with copy-pasted quests and assets, etc.

And I don't understand why in the hell you would do first person vs. third ... I would love to see my c character :-(
  • Movie series? There are other ones than the 12 hour borefest everybody wanked over because it was allegedly a great 3D experience?

"And I don't understand why in the hell you would do first person vs. third ... I would love to see my character"

Because it'S easier to have weapons, arms and occasional other parts of the body doing a preset animations than having a body with prominent hair and a freaking tail reacting physically plausible to your movement and the environment.
    That's really all there is.
  • @ c1ned1ne ... Yeah, I'm aware.

But is a piss-poor, lazy-ass decision for a AAA game.
  • Current-gen only, nice! First person will be interesting too. Looking forward to first gameplay reveal!
  • Since this is being made by Massive, that means their Star Wars game is quite a few years out if this Avatar game is coming out in 2022 (which could easily turn into 2023 since there’s no specific month or season tied with the current release)
