Sonic Origins Collection and New Team Sonic Game Announced for 2022 Release

Richard Walker

In addition to the release of Sonic Colors Ultimate this September, SEGA has announced that Sonic Origins, a new compilation that includes Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, and 3, Sonic & Knuckles, and Sonic CD, will also be on the way next year, featuring “new content and features”. More details are set to follow at a later date.

During today's Sonic Central live stream, a new “flagship” Team Sonic Game for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC was also teased, with a logo that looks a bit like the word ‘up’. Sonic Up, then? Maybe. The new game will be developed by the folks behind Sonic Generations and Sonic Forces, and you can view the teaser below.

Also unveiled during Sonic Central 30th anniversary showcase was Sonic as a free doctor for Two Point Hospital on 30th July, Sonic as an outfit in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 video game, and Sonic the Fighters as a playable arcade game in Lost Judgment when it launches on 24th September. You can check out all of the reveals in the Sonic Central VOD below.

  • Awww where's Sonic Heroes :(
  • wow. they couldn't be anymore disappointing to see for a collection.
  • So much for 'games that have never seen a rerelease before' in the collection, like Knuckles Chaotix, the final Megadrive era Sonic game.

Still, my prediction was correct, ASIDE from Chaotix being eternally excluded.
  • It's funny I've had Tokyo 2020 for almost a year now. I wonder if if they are going to add more sports. And cause I have to the does sonic come free as a update
  • If you don't believe me I already own the game add me on psn as misterjoshua79
  • How did they get the rights to sonic 3 with Micheal Jackson being dead
  • @kissfanjosh that's the Japanese version, the English version isn't out yet
