Arkane Lyon has announced that Deathloop has been delayed once again, with the time-looping shooter now pushed into September 2021. Originally announced for a ‘holiday 2020’ release on PlayStation 5, the game was subsequently delayed into a ‘Q2 2021’ window before being given a May launch date.

“We're committed to quality and preserving our team's ambitions for Deathloop while ensuring the health and safety of everyone at Arkane,” a statement tweeted by the studio reads. “We'll be using this extra time to accomplish our goal: create a fun, stylish, and mind-bending player experience.”

Arkane apologises for the “extended wait”, promising to show more of Deathloop ahead of its new September release date. Set on the island of Blackreef, Deathloop sees you playing as Colt, stuck in a time loop while you're relentlessly hunted down by assassin Julianna. Described as a “murder puzzle”, Deathloop will now be coming to PS5 and PC on 14th September 2021.

  • Fair enough! A polished game is always preferable to a bug ridden one, though I suspect this is as much to do with the fallout received upon the release of Cyberpunk 2077, as it is the pandemic.

Personally, I think studios reconsidering the release now, fix later policy, to be a good thing, and long may it continue. Some games, and Developers, never recover from the initial reactions to their creations, even if they fix their games.

As my mum always told me; first impressions count...
  • @ MajorLeeHairy - While I agree first impressions count, albeit, not for very much in today's society, since it is easy to hide, lie and cover up so many things now days. They count for only as long as a company or person can keep the hidden things hidden, and as they say, truth will out!

I personal have grown of late to have a problem with rushed releases, fix later scenarios. Especially since at the end of the day, the only reason this happens is scummy business practices with completely insane deadlines due to financial obligations from publishers and the backers.

The again, with so much wealth in the world, yet no real mental capacity and lack of care anymore, why would that change when people just throw money from their wallets for any/ever thing!
  • But about the actually game, I think it is going to be a big disappointment for many a folk! It looks tediously boring and bland in terms of game play. Hopefully that is not the case.
  • I will grab this one for like $5-15 *depends how long I want to wait* down the line. I refuse to pay the $60-70 tag anymore with how buggy games are these days.
So delays to me just mean I get to hold my money even longer lol.
  • So ... a twelve years old PS3 game is still the only exclusive title for the PS5 now and for the near future? Strange times.
  • @SoPoF Also Destruction Allstars and Godfall. And Returnal at the end of the month.
  • CDPR instance in effect i quess, maybe publishers has finally understood that it's not okay to release a halfbacked game for full retail prize, we can only hope
