E3 2021 Confirmed for June With Multiple Publishers Onboard, But Sony Isn't One of Them

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has officially announced that E3 2021 will be taking place in June as an all-virtual event, with multiple publishers on board to participate.

Platform holders Xbox and Nintendo have been confirmed as participating partners for the event, alongside publishers such as Capcom, Ubisoft, Konami, Take-Two Interactive, Warner Bros. Games and Koch Media. Sony skipped E3 in 2019, instead and it seems they won't be attending this year either.

Last year's physical E3 event had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, and the ESA chose not to replace it with a digital event at the time. This year's show, however, will be entirely digital, and will include live press conferences and a four-day long video stream. E3 2021 will take place between 12th June 2021 and 15th June 2021.

“For more than two decades, E3 has been the premier venue to showcase the best that the video game industry has to offer, while uniting the world through games,” said ESA President Stanley Pierre-Louis. “We are evolving this year’s E3 into a more inclusive event, but will still look to excite the fans with major reveals and insider opportunities that make this event the indispensable centre stage for video games.”

In the absence of E3 in 2020, Geoff Keighley created the Summer Game Fest event, which will also be taking place in June. While it seems that Sony won't be attending E3 yet again, we can expect a load of game announcements from major publishers for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 this June.

  • So Sony won't be participating in E3 for the foreseeable. This is the 3rd time in a row they won't be attending.
  • Hmm. I just realized I don't care about E3 at all anymore. I used to get excited about it.
  • E3 still never bother's me to this day i'm more interested on just knowing a game's release date, that I am bothered about otherwise don't care about the gameplay story etc. Learned to just play game's as I see them not how everyone else does as review's are just a load of bollock's nowadays.
  • E3 is for investors.... learn the industry.
