Payday 2 developer Starbreeze has announced a co-publishing agreement with Koch Media for upcoming sequel Payday 3, securing €50 million in funding.
This funding will allow Starbreeze to fund continued development of Payday 3 using Unreal Engine, and will also cover “global publishing” and “marketing efforts through the entire game life cycle”.
“We now have a strong foundation for a successful launch of Payday 3," said Starbreeze CEO Tobias Sjögren.
Starbreeze hit troubling times in recent years, with the disastrous launch of Overkill's The Walking Dead on Steam leading to the console versions being cancelled and Starbreeze itself filing for reconstruction in 2018. However, with the continued success of Payday 2 and this new publishing deal, it appears the ship has been steadied.
"We are delighted to welcome Starbreeze as a new partner for our global publishing business," said Koch Media Group CEO Klemens Kundratitz. "Payday 3 is shaping up to be an incredible game. Based on what we’ve seen already, Payday 3 is going to take the franchise to new heights and will delight Payday fans as well as new audiences alike with innovative multiplayer gameplay."
Payday 3 is now due to launch on consoles and PC in 2023.

✅ SIGNED ✅ IN PRODUCTION ✅ UNREAL ENGINE ✅ PC, CONSOLES ✅ RELEASE IN 2023 ✅ IT'S #PAYDAY3!
I love playing Payday with my team. But the lack of console support really disenfranchises me. Seeing new heists released on PC after they've declared no more content updates for PS4 is infuriating. With all the content absent from consoles, the game really should have been PC only.
Payday was a Wonderful game. But they need to leave behind the console and get a PC exclu for this genre.
Continuous update and console don't mix well, too much trouble with acreditation waiting on somy and ms.
And FPS just scream mouse accuracy. Controller is more a RPG thing.
