Resident Evil is due to receive a movie reboot, with Constanin Film set to revisit the franchise with a story based on the very first game, set during 1998 in the heart of Raccoon City. According to writer-director Johannes Roberts, the new movie will be a Resident Evil origin story that will strive to remain faithful to Capcom's survival horror series.

Deadline has the scoop on the Resident Evil movie reboot's central cast, too, led by Maze Runner's Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield, while Avan Jogia of Zombieland: Double Tap fame will play Leon S. Kennedy. Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) will portray villain Albert Wesker, with Neal McDonough (Yellowstone) as Resident Evil 2's G-Virus infected scientist William Birkin.

Hannah John-Kamen from Ant-Man and the Wasp will play Jill Valentine, while Robbie Amell (Upload) is in the frame for Chris Redfield. The new Resident Evil film will follow in the footsteps of six previous live-action movies directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, starring Milla Jovovich, and will get back to the series roots with a narrative set in and around the Spencer Mansion.

"With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and re-create the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences," said Roberts, best known for shark thriller 47 Meters Down and its follow-up.

Presumably, the Resident Evil reboot flick will accompany and potentially tie-in with the planned Netflix live-action series, which apparently focuses upon 'the Wesker kids', Jade and Billie. Currently, the Resident Evil film has yet to be given a release date.

  • What a garbage casting
  • Who the hell asked for this?
  • Yeah, that totally looks like Jill and Leon...
  • Bruh who was casting Jill Valentine...jeezus she looks rather like Sheva Alomar (RE5). Just type Hannah John-Kamen in google images. Smh!
  • This must be a joke...
  • Resident Woke
  • I pass
  • What a joke, fire whoever cast this movie
  • Damn how idiotic are some of the comments in here? When you disagree with something BRING FORTH your version and lets see if you can do better than what the official casters have presented. Can't give any good alternatives? Then shush... You have to back up your so called "opinion"... ... otherwise that's just trolling/dragging/trashing just for the sake of disagreeing without backing it up. I thought Hannah was brilliant in the Antman/Wasp movie... sorry for you that you can't appreciate her because of: (fill in the blanks please)...
  • I have nothing against Milla Jovovich, I liked her as an actress BUT the RE movies are just not loyal to the plot of the game. It's way too off from it so maybe this reboot will correct that whether some of us agree with the casting or not.
  • I liked the first 3 RE Films for what they were but this series desperately needs to be given to someone who knows and respects the lore of the games :(.
  • @9 Are you seriously defending these casting choices? Look at the people chosen, they look NOTHING like the characters they're supposedly portraying, for starters, the one chosen to play Jill has the wrong skin tone, the guy chosen to play Leon looks nothing like Leon and their choice for Wesker looks more fitting to play Chris. Your argument for those who are disagreeing with these choices is idiotic too, anyone who has played the Resident Evil games knows every single one of these is a poor choice on the sole reason that they look nothing like the characters they're assigned to play, which is important when they're claiming it's "an official origin story adaptation". I can't believe would defend these choices, it's clear whoever is behind this movie has more than likely never played the games or done any prior research before casting. I bet this will be about as faithful to the Resident Evil games as Dragon Ball: Evolution was to the Dragon Ball anime and manga.
  • @13 Not only is you're comment 100% factual, let me add this in as well. Not liking something is apparently idiotic if you can't offer a "better" alternative. So in other words, his opinion law but yours isn't if it doesn't toe the line. LOL. I'll take hat is wrong with the world for 1000, Alex.
  • LUL at them trolls in here who are madly in love with Hannah John-Kamen.
  • #12 okay YOU ARE the casting director... shoot! Give us some names that you think would fit the vision of the loyal fans/gamers... like I said in my post, back it up... I am genuinely interested of your choices... You'll never know, I might actually agree with your suggestions. Has Netflix's The Witcher bombed because they chose characters that the "Witcher game fans" didn't like? It's got Season Three coming so not really a flop then... For starters I thought Milla Jovovich didn't fit the character at first but she kinda grew on me with regards to the movie. Another example would be Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft to which this day I cannot agree with her being casted as such just because she was an A-Lister doesn't mean she's a great representation of Lara. I would have preferred Kate Beckingsale instead - 1. She's proper British and has a genuine (not TH) accent... 2. She's prettier and like #14 said I'm madly in luuuurve with Kate SMH... BUT Both movies made money so... What's been presented here are just FACES and (cough) SKIN COLOUR as JustBlaze insists on putting it. The important thing here is how the story will pan out. Will it really be a proper RESIDENT EVIL movie this time? We'll all only find out when the movie comes out. This is Covid ERA Hollywood... movie studios are weighing in the budget costs since not everyone will be going to the cinemas to watch movies IF ever they will open anytime soon. James Bond screening has been moved again and says a lot about the current climate in the film industry. Producers will want their money back, the fees of A-List celebs will definitely cost the studios a lot for a film that may not actually do well in the box office because of no-show patrons and may probably just end up being premiered in a streaming service platform instead... Probably the reason why the casts are some folks most (if not all I guess) of you do not agree on representing the game's characters; the costs to hire more famous/popular faces might be financial suicide.
  • Funny thing #13 I never said I AGREED with the choices, though I personally don't think there's nothing wrong in experimenting with the casts... read my #9 post again... I indicated in there that those who do not agree to give their choices of actors/actresses who they deemed fit for the role. I wanna see them out of curiosity... Isn't this really idiotic when a parent serves food on the table... and the kids says they don't like it... parent asks what they want then, and they just shrug their shoulders without saying what they really want... then pulls a tantrum on the floor... So yeah come on give your suggestions and make us go "ooooh... ahhhh... yes that's right!"
  • @16 You read it again. "When you disagree with something BRING FORTH your version and lets see if you can do better than what the official casters have presented. Can't give any good alternatives? Then shush... You have to back up your so called "opinion"..." No one has to offer an alternative in order validate their decision to dislike something. That's not how opinions work. Now you've switched it up to you being curious to here what changed dissenters would want and that's fine, but that's not what the above quote implies or spells out. That's was at least my only issue with your comment. You can like the cast all you want (if you actually do or don't is irrelevant) and you need not justify that opinion. It works the same the other way around.
  • #17 I could if I would but for me RE is a blank check, I just want a good story out of it. I have no reason to give a choice as for me what was presented on my plate is something I can consume as a movie-goer. Thus nothing for me to bring forth as an alternative... I DID BACK-UP and JUSTIFIED my OPINION though... did you even read my succeeding post stating that the choice for casting directors may be due to budget constraints?... OR BIG-NAMED actors/actresses NOT willing to do movies at at time where social distancing is a must... I didn't switch opinions at all, same but now with more encouragement in the hope that the critics like yourself would reveal their cards on the table. Nothing of sorts has happened so far after leaving their disapproving comments. This is a FORUM after-all, we engage in a discussion...no? So I had to ask... YOU MAYBE RIGHT that the "bring forth-back it up" line in my post may be a bit more confrontational rather than engaging - mea culpa. I may have got incensed by one post that didn't make sense at all about this particular actress. As for why I have no qualms about the choices the casters made, I think a lot of the box-office blockbusters that had revised their version of the movie and casted not-well known people had proven the critics wrong...
  • ... however I would agree that sometimes the people and brains behind the production can get it wrong. Mulan in my opinion is a good example how despite probably having a good casting, the treatment of the characters can make or break a movie and the innacuracy of the culture it tried to portray can get it so wrong, big budget or not. Going back to casting, there may also simply be a shortage of applicants who came in for a casting call, and these actors/actresses were probably the best of the lot. They do have to perform in-front of the director/casters to be chosen anyway. I don't think they were chosen because of their names though their CV made have given them an edge. The problem that Nigel's Twitter post may bite him in the ass if him claiming that the movie would be FAITHFUL to the franchise is anything but. Maybe that was HIS OPINION but he has gotta back it up as well. Casting isn't as simple as it seems as well. I tried to use Alicia Vikander's REBOOT Tomb Raider as an example as I again thought she wasn't right for the role when the trailer first came out. But having looked at the top 100 British actresses none could have been better than Alicia in my opinion... So yeah it may be easy to say certain people don't fit the role, but to suggest an aletrnative may not be easy as it seems.
