Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Will Offer 4K/30FPS or a 60FPS Performance Mode

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will run at 4K / 30FPS as standard, but will also offer a lower-resolution 60FPS mode.

The news was first reported following a developer interview with Famitsu, before Insomniac Games confirmed the news themselves on Twitter. The original Ratchet & Clank trilogy on PlayStation 2 ran at 60FPS as standard, while the series shifted to lower framerates on PS3 and PS4. This option is particularly good for any PlayStation 5 players without access to a 4K display, allowing them to still take full advantage of the power of next-gen hardware.

Insomniac previously confirmed a similar option would be available in Spider-Man: Miles Morales, so it isn't too surprising to see that scaling tech used in their other main title.

If you missed it, we got a look at seven uninterrupted minutes of gorgeous Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart gameplay during Gamescom Opening Night Live - we highly recommend you check it out here.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 during the next-gen console's launch window.

  • But why???
  • Hahaha. Welcome to Next Gen.
  • Next gen is a joke and a complete waste of money by the sounds of it. They are giving us the same options we get on current gen to get the same results lol. Really not seeing a reason to upgrade.
  • Yikes
  • It didn't look 60fps in 4k at all in the trailer so I saw this coming. I'll probably still get a next gen console because if I cared about statistics and the highest framerate i'd have a PC by now. (which actually I do but I rarely play it because let's be honest... just not fun to me.)
  • Hahaha 30 fps next gen with Valhalla, Demon souls and now this. The list will NOT stop there. XD Thanks.. I just get that new GPU coming end of 2020 instead. I don't miss much for the exclusive, they come later has a complete edition later on PC anyway.
  • @6 4 days
  • @3: I'd say this generation was the waste of money. The jump from 3 to 5 seems worth it. Still barely playing on my PS4.
  • Yawn framerate this that the other... Aslong as the game play's i'm happy ^^
  • @Comment #6 by narvalia Not all exclusives make it over to PC. As for this 4K/30 people need to realize that next gen games will also have more detail in the textures and better lighting so saying next gen is a waste you need to realize that it isn't. If you want more frames just select performance mode and the games will still look better than the PlayStation 4 counterpart.
  • I smell PC elitist tears in these comments lol
  • It's good to have options. It'll probably be something like 1440p/60fps. This is still a significant step up. Very few current gen games ran at 1080p/60 unless they were less demanding. If you cared all that much about frames you'd probably have a great gaming PC at this point. Consoles have always been about the games. I don't see this changing that much.
