Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy VII Remake has exceeded shipments and digital sales of more than five million units globally, with the game's digital sales in particular proving "exceptional". In fact, the milestone makes it the highest selling digital release for PlayStation in Square Enix's history.

A reimagining of the first few opening hours of the original 1997 PSone classic Final Fantasy VII, the remake launched on 10th April, winning universal acclaim. Set entirely within the confines of Midgar, FFVII Remake is the first episode in what promises to be a sprawling remake saga.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is available for PlayStation 4, with a demo version offering a free snippet of the game to sample via the PS Store. The full game is also currently discounted on the PlayStation Store, meaning you can snap up a copy of Final Fantasy VII Remake for 34% less ($39.59/£39.59) until 19th August.
