Epic Games has announced that Fortnite will be available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X at launch, as an optimised version that will "take advantage of the new hardware and features on next-gen consoles." In mid-2021, Epic then plans to migrate Fortnite to its cutting-edge Unreal Engine 5.

Cross-play will continue to be supported across console generations, as will cross-progression across platforms. That means your Fortnite account, progression, and items will carry across to the next-gen version of the game. Epic also says that it will continue to support the current-gen versions of Fortnite, as well as the next-gen ones.

Fortnite will be available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X at launch in 'holiday 2020', so you'll have something familar and cosy to dive into on day one. And if you're wondering what Unreal Engine 5 will mean for the game, you can ogle a lovely PS5 tech demo here.

  • Greeeeeeaaaaaat.........
  • @1 Well it is for people who play it.
  • Isn't this game still in "early access"? It's been done for years now. That label needs to be stripped from them.
  • I'll be sure to avoid it on the PS5, too.
  • @3 Yeah on PS4 it's in early access yet on Xbone it's classed as a Beta. It's still not been released for free on the real mode of the game and they promised that years ago now.
  • guys, What means "Early Access" in the game? i still don't understand it.
  • @5 They don't care about Save the World as Battle Royale makes them so much more money. @6 Early Access means that we can play the games but an official release while it's still in development.
  • Yeah still not playing it.
  • i will never understand fans of battle royale games they sell them a mode as a complete game and they eat up like its something great instead of playing a complete game they pay for cosmetics to play the same mode again and again and if this game stopes being profitable it will close up and they will lose everything like meany games we have seen in the past like paragon for example that was from the same company. im not trying to say that there is anything wrong with these games but poeple have to calm down with the battle royale craze because the market will get even more saturated with more battle royale games that will fail just like it was saturated with fps because of call of duty, platformers becase of mario and the list goes on but at least those other clones where complete games that you can still play on older consoles without the fear of the servers being closed and loosing the game forever
