PUBG Corp. has announced the limited-time PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Fantasy Battle Royale Mode, an April Fool's joke that's a thing you can actually play from today. The result of an experiment for the developer, as it looked to "try something new and totally off the rails", Fantasy Battle Royale has a number of twists to enjoy.
There are four classes to choose from based on classic fantasy archetypes, including the melee-focused Barbarian, Ranger sniper character, AoE damage-dealing Wizard, and the Paladin healer class. You start with a class-specific weapon, necklace, and ring equipped, that cannot be dropped or traded, then set about gathering materials.
These materials can then be used for crafting, upgrading your weapon and gear with gems and loot crystals that are also specific to your chosen class. New Fantasy Battle Royale missions can also be completed for gold that can be used to purchase special skins themed around the event that can be used in normal PUBG matches.
PUBG: Fantasy Battle Royale is live now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and mobile until 7th April at 11:59am PDT. You can find out more about the limited-time event here and in the trailers below.
