With Dark Souls Remastered enjoying a recent release, it's only natural to assume that Demon's Souls could also one day be in line for a similar treatment. After all, the PS3 Souls original would be a prime candidate for a remaster, and you'd imagine that many would be interested in revisiting the game.
However, From Software isn't overly keen on the idea of going back to Demon's Souls, with studio president Hidetaka Miyazaki likening it to revisiting past written work. "It’s like when you write - when you’re younger, you look back on [previous work] and you think ‘Oh, goodness what was I thinking,’" he told Game Informer.
"It’s not that I’m embarrassed, I just don’t like to look at my previous works," he added, explaining that Sony would also have to sign off on any potential Demon's Souls remaster, even if Miyzaki isn't completely opposed to the idea of it. "You’d have to see what they’re thinking about it," he said.
"If it was a studio that really loved the original work and really put their heart and soul into realising it again, then that’s something I would enjoy," Miyazaki said of a possible Demon's Souls remaster. "But it’s really complicated because I have these fond memories. Thinking about the idea of a remaster gives me kind of butterflies in my stomach and makes me a little nervous, so it’s complicated. But I understand there are many users and many players and fans out there who really love Demon’s, so if that’s something they could accomplish with a studio that loved the work, then yeah, I’d be okay with that."
Next up for From Software is Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, due to arrive on 22nd March 2019, but Miyazaki will always fondly remember his first game. "That was the first action fantasy game that I created, or I directed," he said. "I have fond memories of it, but it’s definitely not my place to say they’ll remaster."
