Gunfire Games has rolled out a new Darksiders III patch for PC, which is due to come to PS4 and Xbox soon, adding a new 'Classic' combat option. This should address criticisms from certain circles that the new Darksiders game doesn't play much like the previous two entries in the series.

The Classic combat mode "should feel more like previous Darksiders titles allowing Fury to dodge interrupt her attacks as well use items instantly," the developer states. Upon starting a new game or loading a save, you'll be able to choose between the original 'Default' mode or 'Classic', and change this setting at any time during gameplay.

Whether you play Darksiders III in Classic or Default mode, it'll have no effect on the game's difficulty level or achievements. The patch also adds improved ledge grab detection, various optimisations, new items available from Vulgrim, more checkpoints, a level cap increase to 200 and rebalanced leveling post level 80.

Fixes for random crashes and "general performance improvements" are also listed among the patch notes, as well as other balance changes and more. This latest Darksiders III update will be available very soon for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

  • So basically it makes the game like it should have been at launch, sounds to me this game had some bugs and adding a classic mode to stay with the previous 2. Why not just stay with the classic formula anyway why changed it in the first place, then wouldn't have had to do this
  • @1 well its nice they bothered to add something like this afterwards. You got to try new thing sometimes to advance. And besides the older games didn't really do so hot really.
  • Hmm, interesting. I already platted it and I thought it was fine as it was, but it would be interesting trying out the Classic Mode. The only thing that sort of bugged me was the drawn out animation for healing (Which killed me more than once on Apocalyptic), so that's nice.
  • Nice to see that they put in the effort. It's a bit refreshing that content that THQ Nordic has been responsible for publishing has generally been following good practices.
  • Hmmm, back on the list then.
  • Was watching a stream about the patch, most of the enchancements got some serious buffs aswell. so overall a very good patch that should get the game more beginner friendly and more playable for those who are rocking those hard difficulties. I loved the game even before this patch, even more so now I guess.
  • The game was released prematurely to meet holiday sale deadline, but the joke is NOBODY bought this game. It has the worst sales numbers for the series. The remastered games (1 and 2) on PS4 sold more in their first week than this game. This game was just horrible, rushed and forgettable. It's too late to put out patches that make it playable. Nobody cares about this game anymore.
  • I beat it twice on apocalyptic it wasnt even bad..... shit the 2nd time through on apocalyptic only took me 10 hours.
  • I played this after the first patch was released. Wasn't a bad platinum, but I didn't like it as much as the other 2 games. Since then I have finished the other 2 remastereds and the quality in difference between this and the second one is huge in my opinion. Graphically, the second is way ahead in the imagination stakes. Hopefully the 4th game will be more In line with the first 2, if it ever gets made that is.
  • Really enjoyed this game. Started playing it Classic combat patch, and finished it post. The only difference that I noticed, albeit huge, was the instant healing. I really don't understand all the hate that this game has gotten because it was enjoyable. Yes, it wasn't a zelda clone, but the 2nd one started moving away from that mold also. I've always looked at darksiders as a game that mirrors the style of others. Zelda, Open world RPGS, and now Darksouls. I would not be suprised at all if the 4th one was an FPS. Fingers crossed :D.
  • @10 I wouldn't hope for a first person shooter, not at all! Now, if it was a third person shooter and played like Uncharted or something in a more open world, then fair do's... but please stay away from first person! :P
