Deep Silver has announced that Shenmue III's release window has shifted once again, having been previously pushed into the second half of 2018 last year. Now, we won't see Ryo in his latest story until sometime in 2019. That's assuming it's not delayed again at some point.
"The extra time will be used to polish the quality of the game even further, to the high standards it deserves and release the product in the best possible timeframe," the brief explanation for this latest delay reads on Deep Silver's official site.
Shenmue III Game Designer Yu Suzuki also offered a sincere apology to backers on the game's Kickstarter page, with a pledge to also increase the game's quality. "To all of our backers, we are very sorry for the delay. After much discussion with our partners, Deep Silver, we have concluded that extending the release will allow us to deliver Shenmue III at its best. We promise to use this time to improve the quality of Shenmue III," he said.
Response to Shenmue III's trailers and screenshots haven't been particularly favourable so far, which is presumably why Deep Silver and Ys Net have decided to give the game some more time. Based on the images and gameplay we've seen thus far, it does look like Shenmue III could use the extra polish.
Shenmue III will be coming to PS4 and PC in 2019, giving you plenty of time to catch up with Shenmue I & II, due to launch later this year.
