Koji Igarashi has announced Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon at BitSummit 2018. This title is the "retro spinoff" game promised during the Bloodstained: Ritual of the NIght Kickstarter campaign, and will be presented in the classic 8-Bit style. Best of all, it's coming this month.

Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon will feature four playable characters available to hot-swap on demand (once recruited), each with unique attacks and exploration abilities to access shortcuts. There will also be multiple endings and two difficulties: a "Casual" mode that will be more forgiving and a "Veteran" mode remiscent of the older Igavanias.

"Btattle with swords and whips in this retro-style action game brought to you by game creator Koji Igarashi and Inti Creates! Play as Zangetsu, a demon slayer bearing a deep grudge, who must travel through perilous lands to defeat a powerful demon lurking in a dark castle."
Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon will be available at no extra cost to Kickstarter backers of tiers at or above $28, or for $9.99 on its own to those who missed out on the campaign. It will be out on May 24th on just about every platform under the sun. Check out the announcement and first trailer below.

  • Feels like a NES Castlevania 1/2 game... which is not bad actually...
  • Nice.. but i want new age graphics.. but ill still buy this though.. i would have LOVED new age graphics though... Im waiting for ritual of night...
  • Dammit, I thought Ritual of the Night had finally gotten a release date... :(
  • @Comment #2 by MacCrossPlus I'll be waiting on the reviews and if it's any good then I'll wait for a sale because I'm not forking out $79.10 where I live in Canada for this game. It's a basic 2D side scroller and he went beyond his kickstarter so the extra money either should have went into something that looks a little less generic or have the game price lessened because of it.
  • Ok to clarify, I assume this is not the final product of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night but a companion piece or sorts.
  • @5; Correct, this was a prequel stretch goal in Kickstarter campaign. However, it turned into a spin-off and seems that Iga, the guy in charge of the main project, had little to do with it... Which is all kinds of baffling. Honestly, the entire project looks like it's been horribly mishandled.
  • What happen to the 3D graphics the game had, which was shown at E3 2017.
  • @4: I don't believe Ritual of the Night will be a full $60US game. The digital tier on the Kickstarter was only $28 so I would assume it'll be $30 or $40 tops if that's a discount. The physical tier was $60 but that's just for collectors. @7: That game is still coming. This is a different game.
  • This is incredible. For some, this will be more exciting than Bloodstained itself. I think I'm going to grab this for the Switch; looks great!
