Smite developer Hi-Rez Studios has officially released the beta for its hero shooter, Paladins: Champions of the Realm. The game is an Overwatch-esque first-person multiplayer shooter that's enjoyed pretty massive success on PC.

The game ran a closed beta previously, but now that's closed, everyone can jump in and enjoy the game's open beta on both Xbox One and PS4.

To celebrate the launch of the open beta, Paladins developer Hi-Rez Studios has released a cinematic trailer (taking cues from where, we wonder...). The game is free to download and play, but you have the option to purchase Founder's Packs for £15.99 (or your local equivalent) each, which unlock every champion, give you access to loot chests and give you Essense to craft cards to equip on your characters.

  • Looks so much like Overwatch, trailer did not help sell it at all, pass :/
  • @1 Well its a free to play game right now or as they say open beta, unlike Overwatch altho i agree i had the same feeling seeing it and thinking, this looks alot like Overwatch.
  • I guess its decent for those who refused to pay for something like Overwatch. Overwatch should had been free to play...game has its own cash shop. Only Blizzard could pull this stunt off though.
  • Thing is Blizzard are masters of class variety and balance, the development and support of Overwatch wouldn't have been sustainable as a free2play
