Darksiders III has been seemingly outed on Amazon for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, for release in 2018. The third game in the dormant series will apparently feature whip-wielding female mage Fury as its new protagonist, picking up where War and Death left off. Presumably Famine and Pestilence have popped down Tesco or something.
With Darksiders: Warmastered Edition and Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition remastering the first two games, you might have taken it for granted that Darksiders III would soon be a thing, but we didn't expect it to appear out of the blue like this, with screenshots and all. Of course, there's been no official announcement as yet, but it all looks very legitimate indeed.
Playing as Fury, you'll use her whip and magic, as well as adopting "various forms" according to the Amazon listing. These other forms grant access to new weapons, moves and additional traversal abilities, making it sound like Darksiders' signature Metroidvania gameplay will be alive and well for the sequel. The game's world is also an "open-ended, living free-form" one, if you go by the description.
Fury will also be pitted against the 'Seven Deadly Sins' and their servants, while the series' chunky, comic book style artwork will also be alive and well in Darksiders III. In development at Gunfire Games, Darksiders III is seemingly set for launch in 2018. For now, approach with a wee pinch of salt until an official announcment emerges, but this all looks pretty kosher to us, especially when you factor in the listing on the EU PSN for the 'Darksiders: Fury's Collection - War and Death', bundling the first two games for PS4.
