Splinter Cell: Blacklist and Rayman Legends Miss Sales Targets

Splinter Cell: Blacklist and Rayman Legends have fallen short of their sales targets, Ubisoft has revealed.

Both games enjoyed a positive critical reception, but failed to live up to Ubisoft’s expectations in stores, the publisher told investors last night.

The shortfall has contributed to a reduction in Ubisoft’s revenue expectations for the current financial year, dropping from $1.94 billion to $1.38bn.

"As we have said we have experienced lower sales than we anticipated when we gave our targets," said Ubisoft exec Alain Martinez, pointing to "already released games such as Splinter Cell, Rayman and others."

There is another reason for this drop, of course. Yesterday it was announced that both Watch Dogs and The Crew have been delayed into next year.

Watch Dogs had been slated for a November 2013 release, but will now hit in Spring 2014, while The Crew has slipped from a Q1 2014 to Q2 2014, meaning it’ll hit between July and September next year.

It means that neither title will have an impact on this year's sales figures and that fans will have to wait a little longer before Ubisoft's next-gen push begins in earnest.

  • thats why whatchdogs is pushed back.to get more out of the older games and ac4
  • I bought rayman legends day 1 just to support the dev. I hv a huge backlog and haven't played it yet with college and finishing previous games hope they keep making rayman games i love them also will pick up black list in the future 4 sure
  • (Stretches arms wide) Well I guess that means put it on NA PS Plus for the Instant Game Collection. Just kidding, but that would be cool though
  • @3 If it comes to PSPlus i will be so happy :)
  • How about putting Michael Ironsides voice as Sam Fisher.
  • Maybe if Ubisoft actually advertised these games instead of just cramming Assassin's Creed ads down our throat...
  • Hate to say this, but maybe there are just too many games? I'm certainly very interested in Splinter Cell Blacklist, but ... I have to finish too many other ones first, INCLUDING Splinter Cell Conviction. And that attitude doesn't even yet include monetary worries or the desire to actually platinum all my games. Just thinking of how many unfinished "grind boringly to level 5.000.000 in MP" Platinum trophies I've theoretically still to get makes me consider giving up on trophies alltogether.
  • thats a shame both games are very very good, specialy rayman
  • @7 Funny that's the reason I avoid games that do that by now. Skipped Tomb Raider due to MP, I just cancelled my pre-order for Batman Arkham Origins, and never got Uncharted 3 after the big update with a million Bronze trophies that take forever. I have yet to finish the MP in Uncharted 2 and while I do think I'm going to do that it will probably still take quite a while. Also didn't get Mass Effect 3 because of the unatainable trophie if you don't create an EA account.
  • If you're afraid of the MP trophies in Blacklist, don't be. They're extremely easy and ALL of them can be boosted in a private match. They were so easy that I got them all in one night in actual sessions. I really enjoyed the game a lot, and anyone on the fence should buy it!
  • I remember years back when Rayman Origin was coming out, Ubisoft said that if fans bought and supported that game, it'd help get Beyond Good & Evil 2 see the light. Rayman Origin then became such a big success that they announced a sequel, Rayman Legends, instead of BG&E2...I'm one of those who got a little disappointed by that.
  • I bought rayman for both ps3 and psvita. No regrets from me at all the game was really great. I'll probably pick up splinter cell once it's a bit cheaper.
  • Given that millions of dollars invested in a majority of movies that are "speculated" to make a major return in investment-and later flop miserably and make only a fraction of that money invested back, maybe the videogame powers that be need to be watching that trend a bit more closely...
  • i think this is just a reflection of coming out with so many good games out (Last of Us & Bioshock Infinate) and people looking forward to games coming out like CoD, Assassin Creed and Batman. Plus with people saving up for the new launch, some titles are gonna take .
  • Sad to hear they didn't meet their goals. I bought both Rayman Origins and Legends for PS3 and Vita, and I do not regret the purchase! Legends is a fantastic game and more people should play it!!
  • The worst splinter cell of the lot and I'm a big fan of the series missions too short enemies too dumb even on highest difficulty and too much grim talking nonstop hopefully this was the last for a long time OT it brazenly copied ME too
