Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Will Have Ray Tracing On By Default, Even in Performance Mode

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 launches next month, and as with the majority of current-gen games, you'll have a choice of various graphics modes, focusing on frame rates in Performance mode, or pure visual fidelity in Resolution mode. Happily, whichever option you opt for, both will have ray tracing as standard.

“For us, this is really a culmination of everything we've learned about developing for this console. We did Spider-Man Remastered, Miles Morales, and Ratchet and Clank. And so as our fourth title for the PS5, we've really gotten to leverage everything we've seen in developing those games,” Mike Fitzgerald, Director of Core Technology at developer Insomniac Games told IGN.

“Our performance mode for this title has ray tracing on by default,” he confirmed ."We've really expanded ray traced reflections throughout the game. It's on the water and the oceans and really gives a more realistic picture everywhere."

It's good to know, then, that whichever visual mode you decide on, you'll be getting nice shiny ray traced reflections across the board. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 launches for PlayStation 5 on 20th October.

  • 60 fps console when?

Just gonna wait for the PC release.
  • I think instead of raytracing they should have just focused on higher textures at 60fps.
Ray tracing isn't worth us losing so many frames. Even if some games could only achieve 45-50 that's still better than our 30 with drops we get a lot of the time lol
  • Hopefully this doesn’t turn out like Jedi Survivor’s performance mode, where they had Ray-tracing on in that game’s performance mode until recently, and I’m sure that added greatly to the reason that game’s performance mode was pretty bad
  • Hey, Steve. Would you kindly add "performance mode" to the list of now meaningless phrases. Yeah, Sony broke it.
  • Nice, so basically no reason to choose the other mode.
