Game of the Year 2022 - The Nominees

Game of the Year 2022 - The Nominees

As we always have done in our corner of the internet, one week before the end of the year we roll out our Game of the Year awards nominees for you to peruse, before we unveil the winners and runners up next week.

It just so happens to fall on Christmas Eve as well - funny that - so before you settle down with your loved ones this Christmas Eve and smash back an unhealthy amount of eggnog, why not take a look at who we think were the biggest winners in 2022.

No changes to speak of this year when it comes to categories. We saw no need to expand or even create or nuke any categories. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right?

Over the next week after Christmas as well, starting Boxing Day, we'll be rolling out our usual festive features, highlighting some of the other novel things we loved in 2022 - highlighting a few games who didn't make the cut here. So keep an eye out for those. And before we unveil our nominees, let me be the first to say from everyone here at XBA & PST, Merry Christmas, folks. Thanks as always for your support. It means the world to us.

Anyway! Without further ado, ladies and gents, may we present our Game of the Year nominees for 2022.

  • Nice list, Ragnarok would be the clear winner in any nominated category for me, masterpiece.
  • Merry Christmas one and all -- to site-runners and staff; friends and enemies; and everybody else. Wishing you all a wonderful Holiday and a Happy New Year with families and loved ones.
  • @2 thanks and to you as well.

IMO Game of the Year will go to either Elden Ring or God of War.

Definitely picking up Elden Ring, A Plague Tale Requiem, and MW2.
  • Best Story/Audio/GOTY - God of War Ragnarok
Best Performance - Christopher Judge tied with Charlotte McBurney
Best Visuals - I wanna say Ragnarok but Horizon FW has the best underwater graphics yet.
Best New Feature - Die and Age (Sifu)
    Best New IP - Stray
  • 'Best multiplayer game of 2022'

Damn that some low lever games XD
    How far mp has fallen
  • The flying mount in Forbidden West was one of the most jebaited things this year. The idea is so cool, but you got it at the last 5% of thr game. I had everything done and used it only for the one main mission i guess.
  • "Fresh Gameplay Feature" would imply those are things that have never been done before or put a fresh spin on it, yet everything nominated is something that has been done before and arguably better elsewhere, I'd even go so far as to say the last two nominees aren't even features.
  • Die and age from Sifu isn't new. It's pars of the Remnant Before the ashes gameplay.
  • This was kind of a crappy year for games. GoW was terrible. It was so boring and just a slog to get through. Elden Ring was great though. But really there aren't 5 games from this year that I could see myself getting excited for if they announced a sequel. I think Ghostwire Tokyo was a lot of fun, but that got no recognition. It's a much better 'shooter' than this years CoD.
  • God of War all the way down the line for me. Nothing else was as good in the categories it was nominated in.
