A group of former CD Projekt RED developers have announced the founding of Blank., a new studio working on a character-driven project, set during an apocalypse. The new developer is headed up by Mateusz Kanik, who served as Game Director on Cyberpunk 2077 and co-Game Director on The Witcher 3.

Kanik has co-founded Blank. alongside Jędrzej Mróz and Marcin Jefimow, both of whom were Executive Producers on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077.

“We're thrilled to announce Blank. and to start expanding our incredible team. After working for years in an increasingly conservative industry, we're ready to make bold, impactful projects that share our creativity and values,” Kanik writes in a press release (via Game Informer).

“Where the industry champions a dictatorship of the creative individual, we want to give ownership to the team. Where the industry leans on crunch culture, we prefer work-life balance. Where the industry says bigger is better, we're setting our sights on highly polished games with a focus on emotion, story, and craftsmanship.”

Blank.'s remit is to put its collective experience to good use, creating a “clean slate", allowing for “beautifully crafted games and unique experiences”. No “clones, or predictable entries” is another of the studio's tenets.

The studio is based in Warsaw, Poland, and currently comprises a team of ten. For its first game - concept art for which you'll find below - Blank. is seeking to expand the team to sixty members.
