Sprawling Chinese tech outfit Tencent is set to become majority shareholder in Polish development studio Techland. The Dying Light 2 Stay Human developer insists it will still retain full ownership and “maintain creative freedom” over its IPs, however.

“We dream of turning Dying Light into the ultimate zombie game experience for players worldwide, providing you with multiple astonishing adventures and pushing the boundaries of solo and online modes to a totally new level,” said studio founder and CEO Pawel Marchewka (via VGC).

“Our open world action-RPG in a fantasy setting is already shaping up to become something truly special, and the goal here is to make sure it will live up to the expectations for our first new IP in almost a decade," he added.

Marchewka explained that with “ like-minded friends and strong partners, who share the same vision, passion,” Techland will “continue to operate the way we believe is right,” adding that he will "continue serving as the studio’s CEO.”

“Teaming up with Tencent will allow us to move full speed ahead with the execution of the vision for our games," Marchewka's statement goes on. “We have chosen an ally who has already partnered with some of the world’s finest video game companies and helped them reach new heights while respecting their ways of doing things.”

Dying Light 2 Stay Human launched for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC back in February 2022, and is due to receive a The Walking Dead crossover at some point.

  • FFS, have some integrity & stop taking Chinese money, a country that ruins its own peoples lives if they just so happen to say something that their government doesn't like, is known to force companies to spy(which tencent has been accused of before)on users, etc.
  • Big oof for Techland
  • Will this ever end? I just wish companies would grow a spine and turn down Chinese money.
  • RIP Techland
  • Why is chinese money worsse than western money?
All complains from post #1 are done in the US and many European countries as well.
  • @5 are you high or ignorant, since when does the US, UK, etc governments force a company to fire someone, then strip them of achievements(degrees, etc) and blacklist them from getting certain jobs for just speaking their minds about the government. There is a lot more dark stuff aswell, maybe educate yourself on how the Chinese government and all the dark and crazy s*** they do to their citizens.
  • @6:
Right ... cancel culture is a real problem in China. Damn those Chinese for reprimanding people who are not in line with the latest government backed ideology.
If you think China is dark and the West is all peachy, than more power to you.
  • @7 I never said it the west was "all peachey", there are countries in the west with the same issues, not going to bring up the name of the one that comes to mind as that will open who different can of worms. But from what I'm getting from you is that you believe people should not have the right to criticise the powers that be & challenge the status quo to try and bring about changes to make their lives better. If that's the case why don't you move to one of these countries run by power hungry, delusional, self obsessed tyrants.
  • Haha so many comments on not taking Chinese money, bet if anyone here would have to make the decision (which would be Chinese money or no money) they'd be on their knees before the first coin hits the ground.
