Atomic Heart Has the Most Broken Trophy List I’ve Ever Seen

Atomic Heart launched on consoles and PC last week, with Rich calling it “a strong, albeit imperfect, first-person experience” in his Atomic Heart review

From a trophies perspective, however, it is an absolute mess.

Aside from the fact that it’s an open-world game featuring collectibles, with no way to revisit some previously accessible areas - which is a nightmare for collectibles in the first place - it now appears that the game is incredibly broken when it comes to a good chunk of its trophies.

As it stands, every time you logout of the game, it seemingly resets your progress for a handful of collectible and progression trophies. This bug relates to various collectible trophies, such as (and not limited to) the Chirper collectible trophy (Burning Ears) and all of the Testing Ground trophies, but also trophies like Weapon Master and Hothead - and like I said, it’s not just exclusively those, either.

There are workarounds to getting these trophies, however, and that’s to not shut the game down, which is hardly ideal for a game that takes 40 hours to complete. There are even exploits in place to get these trophies, proving that it’s a mess across the board.

These exploits involve prepping a save just before you pick up a collectible like a Chirper, then picking it up, and then reloading the game to repeat this process over and over again, until it pops.

In short, when it comes to the trophies, Atomic Heart is an absolute shitshow.

We’ve reached out to Mundfish for a comment and are yet to hear back. However, in a post yesterday on its Steam page, it did note that “various achievements fixes… will become available with the next upcoming patches.”

So, if you’re looking to play Atomic Heart, I’d wait until they’ve fixed the bugged trophies.

  • In Atomic Heart, trophy pops you.
  • What the hell. Not a bad game but i guess it aint worth the replay for the trophies. Too bad. I thought mundfish was better then this.
  • Oh wow, quality programming I see. :D
Well, if they put the focus on the actual game at least, that's kind of fine. Annoying, but not the end of the world.
  • Example #5,000,000 of why it's worth avoiding day one purchases.
  • I am to the point of just saying fuck it with trophies and not worrying about them anymore.

I was a huge proponent of trophies and seeker of challenges, and I've been pursuing them since they added them to the experience. But I am starting to agree with Nintendo's position on the matter: that it is fundamentally wrong for developers to tell players HOW to play their game (via incentivizing behaviors and activities through rewards ... trophies / achievements) because it kills the sense of adventure and discovery.

This is true. But what's more, developers are so fucking sloppy and retarded now that they can't make achievements work 50% of the time, and the other 50% of the time there's always trophies that are sadistic time-wasters: luck-based, online, or boring collect-a-thons.

Anyway, the situation with Atomic Heart is ridiculous. And it sucks trophy-hunting isn't what it used to be.
  • Well PowerPyx had to cancelled Atomic Heart due the game bugs and certain trophies not tracking.
  • Folks, just don't play the game at launch. Work on your backlog until the game is fixed.

This is not like it's a new thing, it has been happening for a quite some years now...
  • Didn’t realize you were being held hostage to finish trophies or even partake in them… so many odd comments here. Honestly I’d have lost interest in 90% of modern games without them existing. It’s why I bought a switch this past week and it’s already collecting dust. Might be the least engaging console ever for me.
  • That's what you get for buying day one. When will people learn. Meanwhile I'm enjoying the hell out of Horizon 2.
  • @dreadnaught_: Agree with you. Since i got a nintendo switch in october i realized, that trophies dont matter to me anymore. I do a platin run on games i really really enjoy, but now i play games for fun.
  • @7: Too bad "Gamers" have memory of a goldfish and continue buying games on day one.
  • Everyone bitching about buying day one… for ever example of a game broken this badly on day one, there’s hundreds of examples of games running perfect day one..

The real issue with this game is it’s utter garbage across the board.. the only somewhat defend part of the game is the graphics..

Everything else is just trash… but at least all that data being sent to the FSB is literally people shutting the game off after 10 minutes
