INTRODUCTION
Welcome to yet another POWGI Word Puzzle game! In their large compilation of games, they have a formula they like to follow, meshing two well-known type of puzzles into their own little Frankenstein-ed version, and this one is no different! In this case, as the name states quite clearly, this is a modified version of a popular style: the crossword! But don't worry – despite the name, this game does not actually involve mines! There is, however, a similarity to Minesweeper: each puzzle has a certain number of black tiles, each of which contains several letters. These display all of the white-tile letters that must be connected to it in some way, whether directly adjacent or even diagonally! Overall, it's yet another quick platinum, even though it requires you to complete all 120 levels in full.
TIP: Press or
when in the select screen to cycle through the list of puzzle packs. If you decide to knock out the trophies first and thus are not doing all 120 puzzles in order, the game has an annoying tendency to take you back to whichever page contains the earliest blank or incomplete level every time you exit out to the menu/level select.
WALKTHROUGH
Wordsweeper has 120 levels in total, split into 4 pages of 30 puzzles. Each page increases in difficulty (from Beginner to Easy to Medium and then Hard), although the grid size doesn't! You'll need to complete all puzzles in all of the difficulty levels for this Platinum.
Each puzzle contains a 7x7 grid that contains both white and black tiles. The whites begin as blanks and your job is to fill each one with a letter. As described above, the black tiles contain a number of small letters, each of which must be in a white tile that is connected to it in some way, whether in an adjacent white tile or a diagonally-connected one. In essence, it's the same rule as in Minesweeper in the sense that in Minesweeper, the number-tiles display a number indicating how many tiles must be connected to it. In this game's case, it's the same thing but with letters instead and it gives you both the number of letters AND the full list of them! There are a few 'gimmies' tiles in every level where a white tile is connected to only one black tile, thus having only one possible letter. The primary (if not only) difference between difficulties is that the higher you go, the fewer 'gimmie' tiles you're given.
For the platinum, you're going to have to complete all 120 levels, but once you get the hang of the rules after a couple puzzles (or use this guide!), it'll go by fairly quickly. About half of the trophies are for spelling certain words in certain levels, thus being unmissable assuming you complete the whole game. The rest are miscellaneous, such as inputting a certain number of incorrect answers, using Hints or Fixes (see Help Meowt and
Sweep Aside for more details), and so on.
Unfortunately, there are no level names and, without opening each one, no obvious distinguishing marks. In the guide below, each trophy contains the exact level number and location (which page, row, and button) for any puzzle referenced.
STEP ONE— Play the game.
This step will take you the longest time by far, but it has to be done: Complete all 120 levels in the game! You will earn at least half of the trophies for this step alone, and that's if you do no other trophies at the same time, because those are all for finding specific words in specific levels, which you cannot not do! Try to do some miscellaneous trophies along the way, specifically those regarding completing a level flawlessly, to do one without any hints and fixes, using fixes 10 times, doing nothing for one minute, and don't forget to read all 6 pages instructions for a quick trophy!
By the end of this step, you will have earned:
In-fur-mation
Pup and Running
Help Meowt
Sweep Aside
Who's a Clever Boy?
The Leashed You Could Do
Paws For Thought
Per-fect
Bee-utiful
Ski-llful
Sir-prising
Fan-tastic
Con-gratulations
Pro-fessional
Pop Star
Ill-uminating
Leg-endary
Awe-some
Stu-pen-dous
Just Wow
Sweep the Board
STEP TWO — Clean Up!
Clean up the remaining miscellaneous trophies you may have left. Depending on how you complete the puzzles (whether independently or with a guide), the most likely ones you still need to do are: to put a letter invalid in all 5 directions, use a Fix for 10 incorrect answers at once, and to complete a level in 60 seconds or less.
By the end of this step, you will have earned:
Use Your Words
I Don't Get It
I Really Don't Get It
Sweep Under the Carpet
Broom Broom
Clean Sweep
