Introduction:

Welcome back to the World of Darkness as we have ourselves another Vampire: the Masquerade visual novel! This expansion is a follow up to Coteries of New York. Although shorter, it doesn't ease you into the universe like Coteries does. This provides a deeper narrative than Coteries. You'll be playing the role of Julia, a former journalist who is tasked with investigating the suspicious (final) death of a high ranking vampire.

The trophy list is much simpler as you'll only have to play through the game once. Though, you'll need to make specific choices, and save scum (via cloud save) before the final choice as that will guide you to the good and bad endings, which will save you a full playthrough. Much like Coteries, the game autosaves and will delete your save file once you reach an ending. However, you can take full advantage of the skip feature! So even if you mess up, like I did, it's really quick to do a second playthrough. Relax, and enjoy sinking your teeth into another tale in World of Darkness!

Walkthrough:

Step Zero - Play Coteries of New York

This doesn't impact trophies, as nothing carriers over, but I suggest doing it anyways as it introduces you to the universe, city, and characters you’ll be seeing plenty of along the way.

Step One - Ending One

Simply progress through the game. Nearly all of the trophies are story related. I do suggest checking out trophy_gold.png The Moon and the Sun portion of the guide. This will save you a little time as you can set yourself to where you can save, upload your save to the cloud, make one choice, see that pathway through, then redownload the save and try the other. If by chance you don’t have Plus, it won't take long to complete the game for the other ending, as you can use the skip feature to complete the game in about 10-15 minutes.

Also, be sure to select "Shoot" near the beginning of the game. Selecting "Don't Shoot" provides you with a bad ending, forcing you to start over. This ending doesn't give you a trophy (it does give you an achievement if you're an XBox player). Aside from this and the endings, your choices do not matter.

Completing this step will earn you…

Step Two - Ending Two

You'll now want to select the other path to receive the ending you didn't get. Simple as that.

13 trophies ( 1  )

  • Experience the ecstasy of the Embrace.

This will be the first trophy you receive, at the end of Night 1.

It's important that, when confronted by a woman, you'll have two options: "Shoot" and "Don’t Shoot". Select "Shoot". You will then be "Embraced" (translation: You become a Vampire!), and when you do the trophy will pop when the Vampire: The Masquerade logo appears on screen.

Note: Selecting "Don’t Shoot" leads to a bad ending. While this would give you an achievement on XBox, there is no equivalent trophy on PS4. So no need to fumble cloud saves here.
  • Have a ball with your newfound potential.

You'll obtain this at the end of Night 2.

You'll have a free night with three options of how to spend it. Pick any two. After the second one, Julia (your character) will reminisce about the past few nights, and mention that she'll get her first Clan duties tomorrow. The Shadows of New York logo appears on screen, and you'll receive this trophy.
  • Get acquainted with the realities of your unlife.

You’ll obtain this trophy at the end of Night 3

You'll will be performing her task for the Camarilla. Proceed onward until you conclude your long-winded conversation with Benoit (the religious guy who was a side quest in the previous game). You'll return to your Haven (Dakota's apartment) where you have a conversation with Dakota. The trophy will pop at the conclusion of that conversation.
  • Put your journalistic investigator background to a good use.

You'll get this immediately after trophy_bronze.png Who Am I, Really? At the end of Night 4.

What was thought to be a typical night, of course, turns out to not be the case. You're brought by Qadir to the party you were not invited to. Turns out, Baron Callihan (the leader of the Anarchs) is dead-dead. Under suspicious circumstances no less. You are tasked to investigate his final demise, thanks to your previous life as a journalist. You'll investigate the crime scene with Mia. Though your conversation you’ll have the first key choice that leads you toward one of the endings. Once that's done, you'll return to your Haven to conclude the night.
  • Dig into the past until you get a glimpse of the future.

You'll get this at the end of Night 5 where you pursue the first of four missing targets.

You're tasked with finding out what has become of Agathon (a member of the player character’s Coterie in Coteries of New York). In the process, you obtain Agathon’s diary, which you'll get a glimpse of some of his post-Coteries events. Julia will ponder whether Agathon is alive or dead. This is the second key choice. After this, you'll return to your Haven to conclude the night.
  • Gain an understanding of Double Spiral.

You'll get this at the end of Night 6 where you pursue the second of four missing targets.

You'll make her way to Double Spiral, which is now being run by Hope (another member of the former Coterie). Simply carry out the conversation with her, and you'll then return to her Haven to conclude the night. The conversation with Qadir toward the beginning has a key choice.
  • Take a crash course in disillusionment.

You'll get this at the end of Night 7 where you pursue the third of four missing targets.

You'll start with a free night. Choose whichever sidequest interests you. At the conclusion, you suddenly wake up at a strange location. Here, you meet Tamika (yet another member of the former Coterie). You and Tamika work out of deal that leads you to attempt to get Tamika's ring back from Torque (the contesting Anarch leader from Coteries). The conversation with Torque does have a key choice. Eventually, Julia returns to her Haven to conclude the night.
  • Receive a complaint about your methods and react accordingly.

You'll get this after Night 8; after you've made your key choice that determines whether you get the good ending or the bad one.

You'll start with some free time to tackle whatever sidequest you’d like. Then you and Qadir will meet up with D'Angelo (the final member of the former Coterie). The two of you will return to the crime scene so D'Angelo can investigate for himself. This leads you to Kaiser (the well informed man with the limo from Coteries). You'll discover that he’s setting you up, so you take matters into your own hand.

The final key choice, the one you should cloud save prior to, will be whether or not you continue to beat him up. This choice will earn you trophy_silver.png Know Thyself. You'll return back to your Haven one last time to conclude the night. Night 9 doesn’t have any dialog choices, so just sit back and enjoy the conclusion!
  • You have chosen to forfeit the game.

This is achieved by reaching the bad ending. There are five key dialogue choices (Traits) throughout the game. Each one guides you toward either the good ending or the bad ending. If 3/5 are bad ending choices, you get the bad ending.

See: trophy_gold.png The Moon and the Sun for more details. Especially if you don't want to do a second playthrough.
  • Congratulations. You have achieved victory.

This is achieved by reaching the good ending. There are five key dialogue choices (Traits) throughout the game. Each one guides you toward either the good ending or the bad ending. If 3/5 are good ending choices, you get the bad ending.

See: trophy_gold.png The Moon and the Sun for more details. Especially if you don't want to do a second playthrough.
  • You are on track to achieve a rare feat of developing an actual personality. Keep it up.

Traits are, essentially, key dialogue choices you make throughout the story. Each one guides you toward the good ending or the bad ending. See trophy_gold.png The Moon and the Sun for more details about how to make the appropriate choices to ensure you don't have to play through the game a second time.

This will be unlocked toward the end of Night 4. The choice doesn't matter as it pertains to this trophy, but does matter when it comes to which ending you'll get.

You'll get this when chatting with Mia at the crime scene.

  • It's only in perilous circumstances that we discover who we really are. Are you happy with what you found out? (Obtain five traits.)

Traits are, essentially, key dialogue choices you make throughout the story. Each one guides you toward the good ending or the bad ending. See The Moon and the Sun for more details about how to make the appropriate choices to ensure you don't have to play through the game a second time.

This will be unlocked toward the end of Night 8.

You'll get this as soon as you make the final decision (the one that confirms which ending you’ll get). Decide whether or not to continue to beat Kaiser up after the limo crash.

Secret trophies

  • From the bottom of our hearts: thank you for playing.

There are five key dialogue choices (Traits) throughout the game. Each one guides you toward either the good ending or the bad ending. To reach one ending, the majority of the choices (3/5) need to be good or bad, which will be listed in the spoiler. If you don't want to read the spoiler, know that being negative/aggressive actually guides you toward the good ending. Being positive/passive guides you toward the bad ending.

To ensure you can get both without having to do a second playthrough, make sure two of your choices are good and two of them bad. For the lazy, you can reach this split by simply selecting the top dialogue option every time. Once you reach the fifth and final choice, save, exit, cloud save, pick a path, see an ending, obtain trophy, redownload the cloud save, pick the other path, see that ending, obtain the final two trophies.

    The choices are as followed:

    Choice 1: Mia (Night 4)

    "A Camarilla Lapdog?"- Good

"(Nah. Not Worth it.)" - Bad

    Choice 2: Agathon (Night 5)

    "[Alive]" - Bad

    "[Dead]" - Good

Choice 3: Double Spiral (Night 6)

"[it’s time to be aggressive]" - Good

    "[better stay covert.]" - Bad

    Choice 4: Torque (Night 7)

"[No. Be brutally honest]" - Bad

"[Lie, lie, lie through your teeth]" - Good

Choice 5: Kaiser (Night 8) - Cloud Save before making this choice!

"[i will do whatever is necessary]" - Good

    "[This is a barrier I won’t cross]" - Bad
