Introduction:

Welcome to VA-11 HALL-A, the Cyberpunk Bartending Action game! Originally developed by Sukeban Games and published by Ysbryd Games in 2016 on Steam, followed by a Vita release in November 2017, courtesy of Wolfgame. You are Julianne Stingray (Or Jill, as she prefers to be called), a bartender that works at a small bar in Glitch City called VA-11 HALL-A, which is a popular place for those that are the "most fascinated" people in the city.

This game simulates the everyday life and job of a bartender at a local bar, such as mixing and blending ingredients to create new drinks, serving customers, and talking to them as they talk to Jill about any new and/or life experiences they've had; combined with the common elements found in visual novels, such as multiple endings, character interactions, and even multiple save points so players can achieve all possible endings within two playthroughs.

You should also keep in mind that unlike most M-rated games on Vita, VA-11 HALL-A is locked under parental controls and cannot be played unless they are disabled, which means that you will need to go into the parental controls on your Vita and disable the restriction for games before you start playing it.

Walkthrough:

Step 1: First playthrough (Good, Virgilio's, and Dorothy's Endings, and Cameo characters)

In your first full playthrough of the game, you should go for the good ending as you keep Jill focused on her work, help her pay bills, interact with the three cameo characters, unlock Virgilio's and Dorothy's endings, and not spend cash on any other items that she may not need from JC Elton's. Make sure to create a separate save file when Jill goes on her break on Day 17, so you can reload that save when you choose to go for the bad ending on the next day.

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

Welcome to VA-11 HALL-A

Step 2: Reload your Day 17 save in Jill's room, spend money on items Jill didn't need and get the bad ending

After you have obtained the good ending, as well as Virgilio's and Dorothy's endings, you will now need to load up your Day 17 save in Jill's room provided if the save you made during Jill's break period is separate from this one. If it is, then load it back up, spend money on any items you didn't purchase the first time around from JC Elton's, and buy wall paint and tablecloth from the Nanocamo app to ensure that she does not pay the bill for her rent to get the bad ending.

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

Cozy hell (MISSABLE)
So unnecessary
Living with style

Step 3: New Game + playthrough (Get all Flawless Service bonuses and remaining Character Endings) and Cleanup

Once you have obtained the bad ending, you should now load up the New Game + save you have created at the end of your first playthrough (It doesn't matter if the save is from after you get either the good or bad ending, but I recommend doing so from the latter). If you have missed any trophies on your first playthrough of the game, such as Alma's and *Kira* Miki's character endings, all flawless service bonuses, etc.; then you can go for unlocking them in this playthrough.

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

34 trophies ( 11  17  2  )

  • Unlock all trophies

Once you have unlocked all of the game's trophies, you will earn a platinum plaque that recognizes you as VA-11 HALL-A's Employee of the Year for your outstanding work at the bar.

  • What can I get you?

    Story related. Cannot be missed.

You will unlock this trophy upon starting the game from the main menu, where you are greeted by Anna for this first time as she tells Jill that she needs to give off a good first impression as she is the main character, as well as informing her to read the parcel that came in from the mail when she wakes up.

  • The chapter's name means "First"

    Story related. Cannot be missed.

This trophy will be unlocked shortly after the prologue has concluded. In the first day, you will be greeted with the basics on how to mix/blend and serve drinks, as well as how to apply ice or aging them appropriately. Your main goal for this chapter is to renew your subscription to Shining Fingered, which will cost $800 in order to pay it off.

To mix a drink, simply follow the ingredients for the drink that they ask for by selecting the drink in question, then use the and press to add the ingredients into the shaker after you have selected the drink they ask for. Once you're done, press to mix and complete it, or press if you feel that you have messed something up. Additionally, you can also use the on the Vita to drag them into the shaker as you mix them. Additionally, some characters may also ask for bigger versions of any drink, such as a Beer, for example, which means you will need to double the amount of ingredients needed in order to create it.

Some drinks include special conditions that they require in order to be made; all of these are as described below.

    • On the rocks: You will need to add ice to the recipe, which can be done by highlighting the ice icon and either press , or touch the ice icon with the
    • Blended: Blending drinks requires you to mix the ingredients into the shaker for more than five seconds.
    • Aged: Much like ice, you will need to highlight the clock icon and press , or touch the clock icon with the

You should also keep in mind that some characters have special requirements that are needed in order to unlock additional trophies that you will come across while playing through the game.

  • Sometimes a wrong drink can be the right thing

In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to serve a different drink from what was asked by any of your clientele, which will result in them being upset about their order.

I highly recommend doing this during the tutorial, when Gillian asks you for either a Piano Man or a Sugar Rush, as that will not lock the player out of the Flawless Service and Employee of the Month trophies. For instance, if you make a Piano Woman during the tutorial, this will not count as a mistake for the rest of the day, so you should not worry about having to mess up an order during the tutorial.

  • Get a flawless service bonus

See Employee of the Month for more information.

  • This chapter's name means "Bitter"

    Story related. Cannot be missed.

Following the chaos that ensued in the streets on Day 5, you decide that you want to stay inside the bar and sleep there instead of heading home after work like usual. During this time, Jill will recap everything in her life prior to the events of the game's story to Dana while the two drink beer together.

Drinking beer during this segment is optional, but if you drink too much, then Jill's face will turn red, followed by a possible change in her dialogue towards Dana as the game progresses.

Your main goal for this chapter is to pay your electric bills on the eleventh day, which will cost you $8,000; otherwise, she will lose focus for the rest of the day, along with no electricity in her home for the remainder of the story.

  • It's not everyday a client gives you a gift

    (Missable)

This trophy will be unlocked during Day 4 when Stella hands you a bottle of rum that she has found abandoned in the streets. Keep in mind that this will only occur if you get Stella's orders correct on Day 3, which consist of the following drinks:

    • Piano Woman
    • Piano Man
    • Fringe Weaver

If done successfully, Stella will appear and give you a bottle of rum that she found. You can give this to Dana on the 5th day, provided this happens.

  • And this one means "Sweet". Ain't that sweet?

    Story related. Cannot be missed.

The bar is closed for the day as a Mega Christmas party hosted by Dana kicks off. The employees of VA-11 HALL-A, as well as the guests they have invited all enjoy themselves as they socialize with one another and play the game of "Truth or Dare".

Whoever you select when playing the "Truth or Dare" minigame should not matter at all, as selecting someone to tell a true event that has happened throughout their life, or dare them to do anything you would tell them to do, will not affect the story in any way, shape, or form.

Once Truth or Dare is over, you and Gillian converse with one another outside of the bar as Jill offers him a cigarette, which he declines, before she makes her way home, where the goal of this chapter is to pay $10,000 for the rent.

  • Fill your playlist (ALL of it) with a song you like

In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to fill your entire playlist in the bar's jukebox at any given day with only one song on all twelve slots. You can add songs by highlighting with song you want to play, and press to add it to the jukebox, to remove it after highlighting a song you have added, and to remove all songs that you have selected.

This can easily be achieved in the beginning of your shift on the first day after the tutorial has concluded, where you will have the option to set which songs you want to play while you are working.

Fun fact: this is a possibly a reference to the stand-up bit The Salt and Pepper Diner.

  • Chat with Becky behind the bar

    (Missable)

This trophy will be unlocked during Jill's break period on Day 12 after she serves Dorothy a Piano Woman instead of a Sugar Rush, a drink she has asked for initially when she comes in depressed. Serving Dorothy the former will also secure the route to unlocking her ending as long as you have her and Sei's orders done correctly too.

During their conversation, you will learn more about Dorothy's life prior to the events of the game, such as her real name being Rebecca, that she is the adopted daughter of the Garem family, and her previous family prior to Sophia Garem adopting her. Near the end of their conversation, Jill and Dorothy will exchange different nicknames to each other, with Jill calling her Becky, and Dorothy will call her by her full name Julianne in retaliation.

  • (Missable)

In order to unlock the good ending, you will need to have Jill pay the $10,000 needed to pay the bill for her rent on Day 18, otherwise she will be evicted, which will result in the bad ending.

If you obtain this ending, the other endings you have unlocked (provided if you have met the conditions needed to unlock them) will play right before this one does, but I highly recommend going for this ending on your first playthrough, so be sure to make a separate save point when Jill goes on her break on Day 17 so you can reload your save in Jill's room on that same day to secure your route to the bad ending.

  • Make sure Jill pays all of her bills

    (Missable)

At the beginning of all three chapters in the game's story, you will see notifications that will alert Jill about the bills she will need to pay within four days after the start of each chapter. The bills in question are:

    • Shining Fingered subscription - $800
    • Electric Bill - $8,000
    • Rent - $10,000

I highly recommend going for the Rent bill on your first playthrough, since you should create a separate save point when you get to Jill's break period on Day 17 for you to utilize your save inside Jill's room on the same day to secure your route to the bad ending.

  • You don't need to be in a stream to see the audience react

If you are familiar with the Japanese video streaming service Nico Nico Douga (AKA nicovideo), then you will notice a unique feature where comments posted by users will appear on screen scrolling from right to left while the video is playing, along with a timestamp of when the comment was posted.

To have comments of this caliber appear on screen at any time, you will need to hold and press either , , , , or to trigger whichever comments you want to show on screen while talking to customers. The same thing happens whenever Streaming-chan appears at the Bar during Day 4 or Day 18, but the only comments that count towards this trophy are the ones that come from the player, and not her.

  • Here for another round?

To unlock New Game +, you will need to beat the game for the first time, regardless of what ending you get at the end of the game, then save your clear data after the ending. This special save file will have a heart on it with a gold border.

Afterwards, load your clear data, and you will start a New Game + playthrough, which will carry over the items you have purchased, as well as whatever cash you've had left over by the time you completed the game for the first time. New music will also be available at JC Elton's during this playthrough, so be sure to check it out when going for the Hit the jukebox trophy.

  • Get Alma's ending

    (Missable)

    Spoiler! (click here to reveal)
In order to unlock Alma's ending, you will need to meet the following requirements before Day 19:

    • Pay the $10,000 you need to pay the bill for your rent on Day 18 so you won't be evicted
    • Successfully fulfill all of Alma's orders from Day 3 to Day 17
    • When Alma asks for something Classy on Day 5, give her a Brandtini instead of a Flaming Moai, which will unlock the On a hacking pilgrimage trophy on Day 16.
    • Do not give Stella a Flaming Moai when she asks for something Classy on Day 17, as Jess will appear instead of Alma if you choose to give it to her.

This ending will also stack with the good ending, and whichever character endings you have also unlocked depending on whether you meet the requirements for them, so be sure you have Jill pay for her rent to secure your route to the aforementioned ending.

  • Get Dorothy's ending

    (Missable)

    Spoiler! (click here to reveal)
In order to unlock Dorothy's ending, you will need to meet the following requirements before Day 19:

    • Pay the $10,000 you need to pay the bill for your rent on Day 18 so you won't be evicted
    • Successfully fulfill all of Sei's orders from Day 1 to Day 15
    • Successfully fulfill all of Dorothy's orders from Day 2 to Day 18
    • When Sei asks for a drink that's small, sweet, and icy on Day 1, you should give her a Moonblast.
    • When Dorothy asks for a Sugar Rush on Day 12, you should give her a Piano Woman instead, which will also unlock the Don't call me Becky! trophy when Jill takes her break.
    • When Sei asks for a Bleeding Jane on Day 8, you should give her another Sweet and non-alcoholic drink (it can also be the same one too) instead of the drink she has asked for, this will unlock the Deep breaths trophy when Jill takes her break.

Like all other character endings, this ending will also stack with the good ending, and whichever character endings you have also unlocked depending on whether you meet the requirements for them, so be sure you have Jill pay for her rent to secure your route to the aforementioned ending.

  • Play a video game

You will need to purchase a PC-9X from JC Elton's for $1500, then select it in your room to start up the game Model Warrior Julianne for the first time in order to unlock this trophy.

To learn how to play the game and a method on how to beat it, please refer to In the name of beauty!.

  • Chat behind the bar with a bandaged girl

    (Missable)

This trophy will be unlocked during Jill's break period on Day 8 after she serves Sei any drink that's sweet and not alcoholic twice. It can be the same drink, or two different ones as long as the drinks do not contain Karmotrine as an ingredient.

In this segment, you will listen to her story as you learn the truth about what happened on Day 3 of the game's story that's preventing her from going back to her duties as one of the White Knights. while feeling nervous and afraid when telling her story. Jill will tell her to take deep breaths as she tries to calm her down before telling her to go to Stella, only to ask Gil to escort Sei on her behalf as long as she covers his share of the work in the bar before returning to her shift.

  • Fill the room with all the clutter

In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to purchase all items that Jill didn't ask for to keep her focused on the job throughout the game. These items in particular are:

    • Cute Clay Houses - $500
    • Assorted Cartridges - $350
    • Replica Toy Turing - $2350
    • PC-9X - $1500
    • Paper Lantern - $500
    • Meet the Staff - $300
    • *Kira* Miki Banner - $900
    • Mulan Tea - $900 (actually useful when going for *Kira* Miki's ending on your new game + playthrough)

In this case, I would recommend loading the Day 17 - Room save data you have created to reload at that point after obtaining the good ending, and purchase the above items until you have spent enough cash to prevent Jill from getting the $10,000 she needs to pay the bill for her rent.

  • Get the "bad" ending

    (Missable)

In order to obtain the bad ending, you will need to make sure that Jill does not pay the $10,000 needed to renew the bill for her rent on Day 18, which also results in Jill losing her focus that day at work.

When going for this ending, I highly recommend doing it on your first playthrough by spending money on wall paint and tablecloth through the Nanocamo app, or purchasing unrequested items at JC Elton's that Jill didn't need to keep her focused at work.

  • Decorate Jill's room in the most flamboyant way possible

NOTE: No longer glitched as of November 16, 2017

In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to set the tablecloth and wall paint in Jill's room to the leopard motif. This can be done at any time after Day 5 when the Nanocamo app becomes available for the first time.

The leopard tablecloth will cost $300, while the wall paint of the same kind will cost you $500. Equip them both at the same time to unlock this trophy, but keep in mind that you will need to install the V1.01 patch that was released on November 16, 2017 before attempting this, as doing it without the patch installed will crash the game.

To learn more about the Nanocamo app, please refer to Living with style.

  • Get ALL the flawless service bonuses

    (Missable)

In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to obtain all of the flawless service bonuses every day, which means that you cannot make a single mistake in the customer's order. Keep in mind that the only days you cannot serve the customers are Days 6 and 14, as you will take these days off instead.

Keep in mind that alongside the customers that tell you the name of the drink they want, they will also ask for specific types or flavors of drinks too, such as something that's a bitter, spicy, or sweet flavor, or a manly, girly, or classy drink. There will also be some instances where you will need to complete two orders instead of one when there are two customers present.

  • Help a guy open his curry stand

    (Missable)

In order to unlock Virgilio's ending, you will need to meet the following requirements before Day 19:

    • Pay the $10,000 you need to pay the bill for your rent on Day 18 so you won't be evicted
    • Successfully fulfill all of Virgilio's orders from Day 5 to Day 14
    • When Virgilio asks for specific servings that are hard for Jill to understand, give him a Sugar Rush with 14 Karmotrine when he asks for anything that has to do with the number 17, Frothy Water when he asks for something that's fake, and Fringe Weaver when he asks for something that's pure.

Like all other character endings, this ending will also stack with the good ending, and whichever character endings you have also unlocked depending on whether you meet the requirements for them.

  • Unlock all the songs

NOTE: No longer glitched as of November 16, 2017

In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to unlock all songs that are available for the jukebox. It should be noted that most of the unlockable songs are only available during your New Game + playthrough, with two you can purchase during your first playthrough. The list of songs that can be purchased from JC Elton's are listed below:

    All playthroughs

    • Your Love is a Drug - $300; unlocked upon successfully completing *Kira* Miki's orders on Day 2.
    • Meet the Staff - $300

    New Game + playthrough

    • Hopes And Dreams - $500
    • JC Elton's - $550
    • Safe Haven - $300
    • Through the Storm, We Will Find a Way - $300
    • Last Call - $350
    • Believe in Me, Who Believes in You - $450
    • Friendly Conversation - $350
    • You've Got Me - $250
    • A New Frontier - $300
    • The Girl with the Iron Heart - $300

In addition to the songs you can purchase from JC Elton's, there are also extra two songs that can be unlocked by completing certain tasks while playing through the game.

These songs are called "Go! Go! Streaming-chan!" and "Truth". "Go! Go! Streaming-chan!" is unlocked by successfully completing all of Streaming-chan's orders throughout the game; while "Truth" is unlocked by selecting all choices in the extra sidestory involving Anna that takes place a day after the events of the game, which means that you will need to play it at least four times in order to do so.

Streaming-chan appears during Day 4 and Day 18 in the game's story, with a list of orders that she wants can be in this post of the guide; while the extra sidestory involving Anna can be found in the Title Screen by selecting ANNA, then BEGIN; keep in mind that you will need to beat the game first, regardless of what ending you get, in order to unlock it.
Due to the fact that the trophy was glitched prior to the release of the v1.01 patch on November 16, 2017, you will need to enter JC Elton's store again with all songs unlocked in order for it to pop.

  • A certain drink might bring Dana's old friend to the bar

    (Missable)

See On a hacking pilgrimage for more information.

  • Unlock all the decoration options

NOTE: No longer glitched as of November 16, 2017

You can first access the Nanocamo App, which allows you to purchase wallpaper and tablecloth for Jill to decorate her room, on Day 5.

Once you have purchased a wall paint or tablecloth, it will automatically be applied to your room unless you choose to change it, and each item you have purchased on the app can be purchased by tapping the twice on whichever one you choose to purchase, or by pressing twice on the one you choose to highlight. The items you can purchase from this app that count towards this trophy, as well as their prices, are listed below:

    Wall Paint

    • Basic Colors - $200
    • Patterns - $500

    Tablecloth

    • Leopard - $300
    • Underwater Missles - $300
    • Black and Pink Stripes - $300

When purchasing the wall paint items, keep in mind that the items in page 4 are not required when going for this trophy, and keep in mind that going for this, and the Cyberfunk trophy without the v1.01 patch installed will cause the game to crash, so be sure you install the patch first before attempting this.

  • Make sure Jill doesn't get distracted even once

    (Missable)

In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to purchase every item and pay all bills that are required for Jill to focus on her work for the day that the item (and its price) is asked for, or when the bill for that chapter is paid, all of which are listed below.

    • Day 2: Holo-Plant - $600
    • Day 3: Your Love is a Drug - $300
    • Day 4: Shining Fingered subscription renewed - $800
    • Day 5: Joker Cyclone - $800
    • Day 7: Cracked Drauma - $450
    • Day 8: Shoulder Massager - $600
    • Day 9: Beer on Discount - $1,000
    • Day 10: Cutesy Game Poster - $300
    • Day 11: Megachristmas Tree - $1,350
    • Day 12: Electric bill paid - $8,000
    • Day 14: Alex Figurine - $350
    • Day 15: Movie Poster - $250
    • Day 16: Maneki Neko - $550
    • Day 17: *Kira* Miki Poster - $300
    • Day 18: Rent bill paid - $10,000
  • Serving certain drink to one cat might bring another cat to the bar

    (Missable)

See On a hacking pilgrimage for more information.

  • Attend a concert

    (Missable)

In order to unlock *Kira* Miki's ending, you will need to meet the following requirements before Day 19:

    • Pay the $10,000 you need to pay the bill for your rent on Day 18 so you won't be evicted
    • Successfully fulfill all of *Kira* Miki's orders on Day 2 and Day 17
    • Any time when *Kira* Miki asks for tea, you will need to give her Mulan Tea so she will give you tickets for her upcoming concert when she returns on Day 17.

This ending will also stack with the good ending, and whichever character endings you have also unlocked depending on whether you meet the requirements for them, so be sure you have Jill pay for her rent to secure your route to the aforementioned ending.

  • Serving a certain drink to a hacker will bring another hacker to the bar

    (Missable)

In addition to having its own cast of original characters, VA-11 HALL-A also includes Lexi, Jess, and TOMCAT, three cameo characters that originally appeared in the 2015 graphic adventure game 2064: Read Only Memories. They will only appear when the player chooses to serve a drink known as the Flaming Moai to Kim, Stella, and Alma at any given day, but keep in mind that serving this might cause a penalty that could ruin your chances at getting the Employee of the Month trophy, so be sure to create a save file at any slot and reload it if this happens.

To serve a Flaming Moai, you will need to put the following ingredients into the shaker and mix (not blend) them all together without aging it and with no ice:

    • 1 Adelhyde
    • 1 Bronson Extract
    • 2 Powdered Delta
    • 3 Flanergide
    • 5 Karmotrine

I highly advise that you serve this to Alma on Day 5 when she asks for something that's Classy, Kim on Day 10 when she asks for any drink, and Stella on Day 17 when she asks for something that's Classic - but this will count as a penalty, so be sure to save before serving this to Stella so you can give her what she actually wants when going for a flawless service bonus on Day 17.

  • Win a video game

In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to beat the Model Warrior Julianne game for the first time. This can prove to be a tricky task depending on your skill and familiarity with horizontal scrolling shumps, but you shouldn't worry too much as there are methods for you to avoid being hit by enemies as you progress further into the game.

You can move Julianne around with the , while pressing or will have her shoot her three-way projectile against enemies, which take quite a few hits before they can be destroyed.

The methods I recommend include nudging Julianne to the bottom right corner of the screen to avoid further waves of enemies until a certain point, then doing it again, not moving horizontally too much when going back up from avoiding projectiles that the enemies shoot at you, and nudging Julianne down to the same area when you do not see enemies around that area anymore.

When fighting the boss, you will need to pay close attention to where she shoots her projectiles, sometimes they can be in easy spots, while other times, they can also force you to move Julianne horizontally or vertically depending on how many projectiles, and what pattern(s) she is shooting them towards you in. Remember to keep shooting while dodging the boss's projectiles, as she will take damage as long as Julianne's projectiles attack her depending on where the former is positioned at while moving.

  • And thank you for playing

    Story related. Cannot be missed.

This trophy will be unlocked on Day 19, regardless of whichever endings (or one ending if you fail to pay the bill for your rent on Day 18) you choose to get. In addition to completing the game and what ending(s) you get, Gaby will now appear alongside Jill in the title screen.

For the requirements on how to unlock each character's ending, please refer to the respective trophies for each character's endings.

Secret trophies

  • There's a drink nobody asks for...

In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to create a drink known as Crevice Spike and serve it to any customer in the game, which requires the following ingredients needed in order to mix it in the shaker.

    • Two Powdered Delta
    • Four Flanergide
    • Karmotrine is optional
    • All blended in the shaker

When going for this, I highly recommend giving it to Streaming-chan during Day 4 and Day 18, as she will ask for something Nasty for her first order, as this will not count as a mistake when you serve it to her, especially when you are going for the Employee of the Month trophy.

  • Story related. Cannot be missed.

This trophy will be unlocked near the end of Day 14, where you will encounter Anna again after serving drinks to either Kim or Lexi depending on whether or not you meet the requirements for "An old friend".
