Introduction:

Welcome to Touhou Genso Rondo. This is a mashup of the shmup genre and the fighting genre, played on a 2D arena. Unlike fighting games, you fight by shooting swarms of bullets, just like a shmup.

This is a fairly simple platinum, as you only have to do story mode with all characters (excluding DLC), arcade mode with all characters, boss mode with all characters, and a few trophies that require a second person, either offline with a second controller or online.

This game has a tutorial, which I recommend you check out for the game’s basics, but unfortunately, there is no interaction.

Walkthrough:

Step 1: Story and arcade mode

Due to the open nature of fighting games, these steps can be done in any other. I recommend doing a character’s story mode first, and then immediately doing her arcade mode, as that character’s fighting style will be fresh in your mind. You have to do this with all 9 non-DLC characters. You should unlock most of the miscellaneous trophies naturally here.

After this step, you will unlock the following trophies:

The First Rondo
Reimu's Feeling Refreshed
Marisa's Feeling Refreshed
Sakuya's Feeling Refreshed
Sanae's Feeling Refreshed
Youmu's Feeling Refreshed
Remilia's Feeling Refreshed
Alice's Feeling Refreshed
Yuyuko's Feeling Refreshed
Utsuho's Feeling Refreshed
Reimu in a Hustle
Marisa in a Hustle
Sakuya in a Hustle
Sanae in a Hustle
Youmu in a Hustle
Remilia in a Hustle
Alice in a Hustle
Yuyuko in a Hustle
Utsuho in a Hustle
A Tense Danmaku Play
Everybody Feeling Refreshed
An Elegant Come-From-Behind

Step 2: Boss mode

I left this step for later, as it’s the most difficult part of the game. You will have to do boss mode with all 9 non-DLC characters.

After this step, you will unlock the following trophies:

Reimu Flitting About
Marisa Flitting About
Sakuya Flitting About
Sanae Flitting About
Youmu Flitting About
Remilia Flitting About
Alice Flitting About
Yuyuko Flitting About
Utsuho Flitting About

Step 3: Win 10 games against a human player

Here, you have to win 10 games against another human player. You can either do this online or offline with a second controller. As this game’s online is likely dead, you’ll likely need to boost this. Check the boosting thread here.

After this step, you will unlock the following trophies:

First Versus Victory
The Entrance to the Path of Danmaku Play
The Path of Danmaku Play is Endless
Proof of Rondo

  • Won a match versus a human for the first time.

See The Path of Danmaku Play is Endless.

  • Beat 7 enemies in a row with Reimu Hakurei in Arcade Mode.

Arcade mode is this game’s survival mode. You only have one life bar, and you have to defeat as many enemies as possible. You recover some Vitality after each match, and after every third round, you get an extra bomb, but you can only hold a maximum of three bombs. Your charge meter carries over from each battle. Your opponents are random, and they include DLC characters.

For this series of trophies, you need to defeat 7 enemies in a row with certain characters. I recommend doing this right after doing that characer’s story mode, as their fighting style will be fresh in your mind.

  • Beat 7 enemies in a row with Marisa Kirisame in Arcade Mode.

    See Reimu in a Hustle.

  • Beat 7 enemies in a row with Sakuya Izayoi in Arcade Mode.

    See Reimu in a Hustle.

  • Beat 7 enemies in a row with Sanae Kochiya in Arcade Mode.

    See Reimu in a Hustle.

  • Beat 7 enemies in a row with Youmu Konpaku in Arcade Mode.

    See Reimu in a Hustle.

  • Beat 7 enemies in a row with Remilia Scarlet in Arcade Mode.

    See Reimu in a Hustle.

  • Beat 7 enemies in a row with Alice Margatroid in Arcade Mode.

    See Reimu in a Hustle.

  • Beat 7 enemies in a row with Yuyuko Saigyouji in Arcade Mode.

    See Reimu in a Hustle.

  • Beat 7 enemies in a row with Utsuho Reiuji in Arcade Mode.

    See Reimu in a Hustle.

  • Beat 10 enemies in a row with Reimu Hakurei in Boss Rush.

Boss mode is like arcade mode, but this time, your opponents will always be using spells. You only have one life bar, and you have to defeat as many enemies as possible. You recover some health after each match, and if you drain an opponent’s health completely, you get a time bonus for extra health. Just like in arcade mode, after every third round, you get an extra bomb, but you can only hold a maximum of three bombs. You can either wait out each opponent by dodging bullets, or try to defeat your opponent.

In my experience, if your opponent is Marisa, Yuyuko, Utsuho, Yukari, or Aya, you’re better off dodging instead of trying to attack them. Save up your bombs for when needed. Bombs can be used offensively, as they do a lot of damage, but also defensively as you’re invincible while the bomb is active, and it also clears the area of bullets.

As the trophy says, you need to defeat 10 enemies in a row with Reimu. Reimu has a decent homing attack for her slow attack, but the normal attack does more damage if the enemy is straight ahead. Unfortunately, she has a weak bomb.

  • Beat 10 enemies in a row with Marisa Kirisame in Boss Rush.

See Reimu Flitting About for more information.

Marisa has a damaging slow attack move, as it’s a laser that shoots straight up. Marisa doesn’t have a great bomb though.

  • Beat 10 enemies in a row with Sakuya Izayoi in Boss Rush.

See Reimu Flitting About for more information.

Sakuya has a homing attack for her slow attack, but it does little damage. Her regular attack does more damage, but it does the most damage up close. She has a decent bomb.

  • Beat 10 enemies in a row with Sanae Kochiya in Boss Rush.

See Reimu Flitting About for more information.

Sanae’s regular attacks do decent damage, but her bomb does quite a bit of damage up close, since it has quite a long duration.

  • Beat 10 enemies in a row with Youmu Konpaku in Boss Rush.

See Reimu Flitting About for more information.

Youmu has ghosts who follow her, and because the ghosts shoot also, she can do massive damage pretty quickly. She also has a good bomb.

  • Beat 10 enemies in a row with Remilia Scarlet in Boss Rush.

See Reimu Flitting About for more information.

Remilia has a pretty weak normal attack, but her slow attack is very good. Her slow attack is like a turret that shoots whenever you shoot, but it disappears the moment you move normally (but it stays as long as you move slowly holding ). This means that you can use slow attacks and normal attacks, so she has high damage potential. Her bomb is pretty decent close-up.

  • Beat 10 enemies in a row with Alice Margatroid in Boss Rush.

See Reimu Flitting About for more information.

Alice has a powerful slow attack, which is a laser like Marisa's. Her bomb isn’t all that great either, as it has a rather short duration.

  • Beat 10 enemies in a row with Yuyuko Saigyouji in Boss Rush.

See Reimu Flitting About for more information.

Yuyuko has a pretty damaging normal attack, and her bomb is pretty good too.

  • Beat 10 enemies in a row with Utsuho Reiuji in Boss Rush.

See Reimu Flitting About for more information.

Utusho has overpowered normal attacks and bombs. This is probably the easiest of the boss mode trophies.

  • Both players entered the "Extend" state in a match.

This can be combined with An Elegant Come-From-Behind. Whenever your Vitality reaches 0, you don’t automatically lose. Instead, you will end up in “Extend” state where the next hit loses. You need to have both your opponent and yourself in “Extend” state to unlock this trophy.

  • Won 3 matches versus humans.

See The Path of Danmaku Play is Endless.

  • Cleared the stories of Reimu, Marisa, Sakuya, Sanae, Youmu, Remilia, Alice, Yuyuko, and Utsuho.

As the trophy says, complete the story for each of the non-DLC characters in the game.

  • Won a match while grazing at least 10 bullets while in the "Extend" state.

While in “Extend” mode, when your Vitality is 0, you will need to graze at least 10 bullets (come close to bullets without actually getting hit by them), and win the match. There is a good chance that this will come naturally during the game, but if not, you can do this with a second controller in Player Match and have the second player shoot easy to dodge bullets while you’re in “Extend” state.

  • Won 10 matches versus humans. We are just at the beginning of the path!

This can be done either offline with a second controller or online. As the trophy says, win 10 times in Player Match. Set the number of matches to 1 to make things quicker. If you don’t have a second controller, check out the boosting thread here.
