Introduction:
Total Recoil is a twin sticks shooter for the Playstation Vita, you play a soldier with little to no story at all, you complete challenges to work your way up through the army to reach the rank of General of the Army. This game is no where the intensity of a Super Stardust or Dead Nation, it's actually a fairly easy game.
There are three terrain types when choosing a mission, which are all the same and that's just to kill all the enemies, Train Yard, Oil Rig and Mighty Jungle. These are mostly for aesthetics, however some enemy types can only be found in certain terrain. While clearing levels you are given a set of three challenges to complete, when you fulfill those requirements you are awarded a star - earn enough stars and you move up a rank. To reach General of the Army you need to reach rank 18.
Walkthrough:
Step 1: First you want to do is just play the game up to Mission D.6 which is your first encounter with a Quatro Pounder - do not bother grinding this stage five times because various challenges will have you coming back to kill this enemy multiple times.
Step 2: Continue completing challenges on the appropriate missions, some mention you must be in certain terrain types or defeat specific "boss" type enemies. While clearing waves try to kill every enemy in those waves, this will be helpful for the trophies Invincible, Shield and Medic because you are awarded one of those random boosts or killstreak rewards at the end of any fully cleared wave - you also get bonus money. See below for the easiest way to clear all challenges as well as other general tips.
Tips to getting Prestige faster: After you reach "General of the Army" for the first time you will be given the option to start all over again, similar to Jetpack Joyride.
1. Upgrade to level 2 or 3 of coin magnet, I found quite often that many coins were way off the walking path, you can tap on the screen to collect them but it’s just infinitely easier to collect them this way - Ratchet and Clank style.
2. Upgrade your Flamer to the max, it can kill enemies through crates and indestructible boxes and has a very nice range.
3. If you are going to die on a level, don’t spend your coin giving yourself a 1UP, that’s a waste because when you die you keep your kills and money and can just restart with no penalty.
4. If you are in offline mode avoid going to the in-game shop, it sometimes hangs for a few minutes while trying to connect because it looks like they wanted to have micro-transactions but have not yet implemented them, it's annoying to wait but you eventually get in.
