Telltale's The Walking Dead is back with another roller coaster of emotions. Hopefully, you stocked up on some tissues. We're taking a break from all things Clementine to experience a story starring one of the most popular Walking Dead character in any medium: Michonne (voiced by Samira Wiley of "Orange is the New Black" fame). Unlike previous Telltale efforts, this story is told across three episodes as oppose to the usual five. Despite that, don't expect there to be any shortage of feels, Walkers and decapitations. As always, expect you're decisions to affect your story in some fashion.
If you're a reader of the comics, then this series takes place between Issues 126 and 139 so hopefully this game will answer any questions you have.
I've created a step-by-step walkthrough for this so if you choose to go that route then see here: LINK but be warned, you will be spoiled.
Do I need to read the comics or watch the TV show to enjoy this?
No. I, personally, recommend it because they're both great. However, it's not necessary for the enjoyment of the game. It's meant to fill in a gap in the comic's story that was otherwise not present and the Telltale games take place in the comic universe and not the TV universe. You will get some Michonne backstory not mentioned in the comics, and there will be very minor allusions to the comics, but I won't feel they're anything of consequence.
Are The Walking Dead Season 1 and/or 2 necessary to play?
No. You do not need any of the previous games installed to play. The Walking Dead: Michonne is a standalone title.
Do my saves from The Walking Dead Season 1 and 2 transfer over?
No. None of your previous choices transfer over. The Walking Dead: Michonne is a standalone title. The events of this game take place in a different location from where the main series left off.
Will my save file from The Walking Dead: Michonne factor into The Walking Dead Season 3?
No. However, do not rule out the possibility of it affect future seasons and spinoffs. If it does, I will update this post to reflect that.
Step 1 (PS3 only) - Technical Issues:
As is the case with most Telltale games as times goes on, the PS3 version is riddled with technical issues. For some, this has resulted in the game being completely unplayable. If that is the case, play an unpatched version of the game. You will have to go back and earn Charred Memory (Episode 3, Chapter 3) once you complete the game, and repatch it.
It's extremely, if not completely, unlikely this and Step 3 will be necessary if you're playing on PS4. If you're on PS4, you only should have to worry about Step 2.
Step 2 - Complete the game:
If you've played some of the more recent Telltale games such as The Walking Dead, Tales from the Borderlands and Game of Thrones etc. then you know the drill. The game is separated into three episodes each consisting of seven chapters. You will earn a trophy at the end of each chapter and all trophies are story related and cannot be missed.
If you're playing an unpatched version on PS3, you will have everything but Charred Memory. If you managed to complete the game fully patched, you should have 100%. Congrats!
Step 3 (PS3 only) - Charred Memory:
If you're on PS3, and played this unpatched, you should only be missing Charred Memory. Redownload the patch, and load up Episode 3, Chapter 2 through chapter select. From there play through until the end of Chapter 3, and your final trophy should unlock. Platt has created a thread that details the step by step process.
