Welcome to my Trophy Guide for The Raven: Legacy of a Master Thief, a crime visual novel from Nordic Games. The plot centres around you, Constable Zellner of the Swiss Police and the crimes of The Raven, a revered and renowned thief. You are merely to serve as an escort for a valuable gem but quickly get sucked into a web of murder, treachery and robbery as you chase the elusive master criminal.
Gameplay wise, there is very little more than speaking to people, going places and interacting with object, sometimes combining them to form more useful items in order to track down The Raven. There is no difficulty setting but there is a Tutorial at the beginning of the game to get you familiar with the controls. The entire story is broken down into 3 chapters, each of which has it's own set of puzzles for which you will be scored depending on whether or not you needed a hint to solve it, which will negate performance related trophies so just to make this clear from the off:
**Do not, at ANY time, press as it will give you a hint on how to proceed but at the cost of your credit score and thus you will not be awarded a Master Detective rating or the corresponding gold trophy for that chapter**
One other thing to mention is you can save the game at any point but not to a designated file, there is only one save file and you overwrite it whenever you choose to save or the autosave feature does it for you so be very careful about proceeding too soon.
As far as trophies go, the majority are missable and depend on how much detail you go into during the game. Any that are not story related will need some kind of additional action to be unlocked and it's not always obvious what that is. Due to this, I have put each description in a spoiler and also written a complete walkthrough from start to finish to supplement this guide which encompasses every single trophy that the game has to offer. For that, please visit the Master Detective - Complete Walkthrough.
NOTE: the PS4 remaster of the game has removed the Forensic silver trophy. Otherwise, the gameplay is identical to the PS3 version.
Upon completion of a Chapter, the credits will roll and after a score menu, you'll go back to the main menu. If you choose to reload, it will put you back the last checkpoint of the Chapter you completed and you will enter an endless cycle of constantly completing the last part of the Chapter. To continue, you must choose 'New Game' and then the next Chapter. It will warn you with a prompt that you will overwrite any unsaved progress, just hit 'Yes'. I know it's not very coherent but rest assured that 'New Game' does not forget all of your progress in the Chapters you've already done and hence, will keep you on track for Completionist.
Once more thing. I have used spoilers deliberately in the forum Guide for the majority of trophies, simply reveal them to find a walkthrough of interactions/dialogue to follow which will unlock the trophies. All of these are excerpts from the Master Detective - Complete Walkthrough and outline exactly what to do. Occasionally you will notice an instruction to 'Equip' an item, marked with an asterix (*). This means you must press and equip that item from your inventory, as opposed to interacting with an object in the scenery which will be the default action for any other instruction.
**Glitch Alert**
There's 2 trophies in the game that can glitch, Completionist and Crime Scene Investigator. For the CSI trophy, you just have to do things in a very set order. There are about a dozen objects in one room to inspect and you must leave two things until last, because inspecting them before the others will 'end' the investigation yet you won't notice this and the game carries on. To avoid it, do the exact steps as outlined in the Guide.
The second trophy though is much more problematic. The cause is progressing too far into the game without recording each puzzle as 100% done, because you can 'solve' a puzzle just enough to get by or crack it wide open. If you merely just solve a puzzle, then you will still get any trophy tied to it but you won't get the all important puzzle solution score and if you then progress to the end of the Chapter and start another one, you will overwrite the last save it was recorded on and somehow it will always be remembered. The result is you will never be able to unlock Completionist and the Platinum, no amount of deleting save/game data, even game deletion and reinstallation will not fix it. The only viable workaround is to actually play on a different console, which is a very extreme measure. To avoid this pitfall, I strongly urge you to use the Master Detective - Complete Walkthrough which ensures you will completely and thoroughly solve all puzzles. If you go it alone and end up glitching yourself out of this trophy, then I'm afraid you will need another console. No kidding.
Step 1 - Story Mode
Depending on what resources you choose to use for this playthrough, you may not need to do anything else. The supplemental guide will ensure you get everything you need in one full playthrough but if you prefer to get immersed in the gameplay, then just complete the game without necessarily using this Guide in terms of when and where each trophy is unlocked. If you do so and miss out on any missable trophies, then go on to Step 2.
Step 2 - Chapter Select - Sweep Up
So if you sacrificed a full trophy haul for a spoiler free playthrough, now is the time to go back and unlock any trophies you missed the first time around. View any of the trophy descriptions or hit up the Master Detective - Complete Walkthrough to take it from the top and blaze through the game following each instruction to ensure you pop the ones you need.
It's a fairly short game but a very enjoyable one if you don't spoil much of it for yourself so enjoy the game and good luck with the Platinum.
