The Last Blade 2 was originally released by SNK in the late 90's for arcades and home consoles such as the Dreamcast and PlayStation. After nearly two decades: SNK has decided to let a new generation try out this classic by releasing an emulated version of it for the PS4 and Vita with some help from a new developer, Code Mystic.

While SNK fighters have a reputation for difficult platinum's/100%'s, TLB2 is an exception: you'll only need to play through arcade mode with every character and defeat 30 opponents in Time Attack mode to earn your 100%.

Input Notation:

Input notation is used in fighting games like Guilty Gear, Persona and Blazblue to convey combos and inputs in an organized fashion, since writing down move names isn't visually appealing. In this guide I will reference moves in this format a few times, if you don't know how to read it, reading input notations is as follows:

1 = Left + Down
2 = Down
3 = Right + Down
4 = Left / Back
5 = Neutral / No input
6 = Right / Forward
7 = Left + Up
8 = Up
9 = Right + Up
J = Jump

TLB2 functions very similar to the "Samurai Showdown" series, as it has identical control functions and commands. Because I will refer to commands within the game often, here is the default button configuration:

= Weak Slash (WS)

= Strong Slash (SS)

= Kick (K)

= Repel (R)

= K + R

= SS + K + R

= WS + SS

= SS + K

= Provocation (Taunt)

Repel is used to parry attacks, but throws cannot be parried. A throw can be executed by using the , but their range requires you to be very close to your opponent in comparison to other fighters.

Another important mechanic of the game is that after you select a character, you will be prompted to choose between "Power" or "Speed" type. As the name would imply, Power type allows you to deal more damage: at the cost of not being able to use "chain combos". Speed type allows you to use chain combos at the cost of reduced damage. I would highly suggest that unless you're very familiar with the game, you choose Speed type. Chain combos are simple combos that are activated by pressing "WS + SS + K" (one after the other, not all together): and this will make your time with clearing Arcade Mode with each character much easier.

These are the general mechanics of the game that I feel are important for newcomers to know before playing the game, if you want a more advanced understanding of the game: I would suggest going to Shoryuken's wiki page to obtain more information.

Secret Characters:

There are two secret characters in the game, but to earn the 100% you will only need to about know one of them. While at the character select screen, go over to Kaede (top left) and press the following button sequence: " x10, x5, x4". If you did this correctly you would have heard an audio confirmation, and with this you have unlocked Koryu. I will go over why Koryu is important later in the guide, but he is necessary for Sheer Folly! and a character I would highly recommend you use while attempting Not bad, is it? and SNK.

TLB2 only has offline trophies that require you to experience the main two components of offline mode, Story mode and Time Attack mode.

Step 1: Arcade Playthroughs

In order to unlock a majority of the trophies for TLB2, you must play and beat Arcade (Story) mode with all of the playable characters on the character select screen including the secret character Koryu. You must also complete Arcade Mode without using a continue to unlock Just a moment!. Arcade Mode is very forgiving though, not only can you set the CPU to Easy by going to "Options -> Game Options -> Level" (set it to Level 1) but you also have an unlimited amount of continues and each time you continue you your opponent starts off with the amount of health that they had prior to your continue.

At the end of this step, you will have earned the following trophies:

I'm gonna show ya my real power...!
Flounder under the moonlight...
This is also destiny
Powerful victory!
Nailed it!
I'll stick to my beliefs, no matter what...
This is the power of justice
No interest to the weaks
Be ready for your death!
Heaven forbid...
Have good dreams!
I must accomplish it!
I can still do it...!
Living nightmare...
Extreme pleasure...!
I am going to slash you down...!
Sheer folly!
Just a moment!

Step 2: Time Attack Playthrough

Time Attack tasks you with defeating as many opponents as you can within 90 in game seconds. In order to obtain all of the Time Attack related trophies, you must defeat 30 opponents within one game of Time Attack.

At the end of this step, you will have earned the following trophies:

Not bad, is it?

20 trophies ( 19  )

  • Clear the game as KAEDE

    Kaede can be considered the traditional "Shoto" type character prevalent in all fighting games (similar to Ryu). In addition to his chain combo, I would also suggest using the following combo for fast results: "j.SS > SS > 623SS". Once you complete Kaede's Arcade Mode, the trophy will unlock.

  • Clear the game as MORIYA MINAKATA

    Moriya is a character who's attacks don't deal too much damage, but he makes up for it in speed. In addition to his chain combo, I would also suggest using his "236SS x4" input. Once you complete Moriya's Arcade Mode, the trophy will unlock.

  • Clear the game as YUKI

    Yuki's attacks have a longer reach compared to most characters, so she is more suited for chipping the opponent's health bar away from a distance. In addition to her chain combo, I suggest using the following combo: "j.SS > SS > 236WS" (you should also use 236SS when far away from an opponent). When you beat Arcade Mode with Yuki, the trophy will unlock.

  • Clear the game as AKARI ICHIJO

    Akari is a technical character that requires a bit more of an advanced understanding of the game's mechanics to play her effectively. As a result, I would suggest relying on her chain combo and "j.SS". Once you beat Arcade Mode with Akari, the trophy will unlock.

  • Clear the game as JUZO KANZAKI

    Juzo is a slow but heavy hitting character that relies on powerful attacks to defeat his opponents with ease. In addition to his chain combo, I would also suggest using the following combo: "SS > 236SS". Once you beat Arcade Mode with Juzo, the trophy will unlock.

  • Clear the game as KEIICHIRO WASHIZUKA

    Keeichiro is a "charge" character who relies on projectiles and "flashkicks" to keep the opponent away from him. If you are not familiar with charging, I suggest using his chain combo. Once you have beaten Arcade Mode with Keiichiro, the trophy will unlock.

  • Clear the game as RECCA LEE

    Lee is a fast "rushdown" character that uses his fast melee attacks to overwhelm the opponent. In addition to using his chain combo, I would also suggest using the following combo: "j.SS > WS x2 > SS > 214K x3". Once you beat Arcade Mode with Lee, the trophy will unlock.

  • Clear the game as ZANTETSU

    Zantetsu is a fast "rushdown" character that uses dual short swords to attack his opponents. In addition to his chain combo, I would also suggest using the following combo: "j.SS > SS > 623K". When you beat Arcade Mode with Zantetsu, the trophy will unlock.

  • Clear the game as SHIGEN NAOE

    Shigen is a slow but hard hitting grappling character that uses throws to deal high damage to his opponents. I would suggest using his chain combo if you are not familiar with using "grapple" inputs. Once you beat Arcade Mode with Shigen, the trophy will unlock.

  • Clear the game as GENBU NO OKINA

    Genbu is a technical character that requires a bit more of an advanced understanding of the game's mechanics to play him effectively. As a result, I would suggest relying on his chain combo. Once you beat Arcade Mode with Genbu, the trophy will unlock.

  • Clear the game as HYO AMANO

    Hyo is a technical character that requires a bit more of an advanced understanding of the game's mechanics to play him effectively. As a result, I would suggest relying on his chain combo and "WS (rapidly) > 236SS)". Once you beat Arcade Mode with Hyo, the trophy will unlock.

  • Clear the game as SHINNOSUKE KAGAMI

    Shinnosuke is an all around character that has many tools to keep the opponent at a distance or deal damage. In addition to his chain combo, I would also suggest using the following combo: "j.SS > WS x2 > SS > 236SS x2". Once you have beaten Arcade Mode with Shinnosuke, the trophy will unlock.

  • Clear the game as KOJIRO SANADA

    Kojiro is a fast offensive character that relies on combos to overwhelm his opponents. In addition to his chain combo, I would also suggest using the following combo: "j.SS > SS > 214SS". Once you beat Arcade Mode with Kojiro, the trophy will unlock.

  • Clear the game as SETSUNA

    Setsuna is an offensive character that relies on high damage combos to keep his opponents on their feet. In addition to his chain combo, I would also suggest using the following combo: "j.SS > SS x2 > 214SS". Once you beat Arcade Mode with Setsuna,, the trophy will unlock.

  • Clear the game as MUKURO

    Mukuro is an all-around character that has many tools to either deal damage or keep the opponent away. In addition to his chain combo, I suggest using his "214WS and 214SS" inputs while the opponent is at a distance. When you beat Arcade Mode with Mukuro, you will unlock this trophy.

  • Clear the game as HIBIKI TAKAMINE

    Hibiki much like Moriya is a character who's attacks don't deal too much damage, but she makes up for it with speed. In addition to her chain combo, I suggest using the following combo: "j.SS > SS, 623SS". Once you beat Arcade Mode with Hibiki, the trophy will unlock.

  • Clear the game as KORYU

    To use Koryu, refer to the "Secret Characters" section found in the Introduction. Because of his status as a "Boss" type character, his regular attacks deal great damage: and his chain combo takes away more than half of the opponent's life bar. This is an ideal character to obtain Just a moment! with. Once you have completed Arcade Mode with Koryu, the trophy will unlock.

  • No continue game clear

    To obtain this trophy, you must complete Arcade Mode without ever using the "continue" option. This can be difficult first coming into the game, as the final two opponents in arcade mode have a large difficulty spike (regardless of what you set the level to), making defeating them without using a continue difficult. Save the trophy until you become familiar with the game and its characters, while I obtained this trophy by using Setsuna and the combo listed under his trophy: I personally recommend using Koryu.

  • Play in TIME ATTACK and beat 15 characters in a row

    Please see SNK.

  • SNK

    Play in TIME ATTACK and beat 30 characters in a row

    In Time Attack Mode, you are given 90 in game seconds to defeat as many opponents as you can before the timer is depleted. While in this mode a few things change. Firstly, you have unlimited health. The opponent will only have one health bar instead of two, and after you defeat about two opponents all subsequent opponent's health bars will be decreased by 20%. Opponent's will also come one after the other without any delay. Without a proper strategy, this trophy can be difficult.

    I obtained this trophy by using Koryu, and used his chain combo on the first two opponents: then when all other opponent's had reduced health bars I used his "SS > + SS" combo. This is effective because the aforementioned combo is fast, has long range, and kills opponents with only two uses of it. For a visual of my strategy, here's a video of it. Once you have defeated thirty opponents in a row, Not bad, is it? and this trophy will unlock.
