Introduction

The Inner World is a point and click adventure game by German developer Studio Fizbin, originally released in 2013 and ported to PS4 in 2017. You play as Robert, the most innocent of innocents, as he works to foil a sinister plot against Asposia's wind temples being enacted by his former master, Conroy. Assisting him is the cynical and streetwise Laura, who is searching for her missing father, a brilliant scientist who is somehow tangled up in Conroy's scheme.

If you are familiar with point and click games at all, The Inner World poses no challenge. There is good humor and the puzzles are fairly simple but the PS4 interface is awkward to control and takes a while to get used to. If you need it, I've written a full walkthrough for this game: LINK.

NOTE: The Inner World makes use of a lot of cinematic cutscenes. These cutscenes can be skipped, and dialogue can be rushed through. However, if you rush through dialogue too quickly – especially dialogue that leads to cutscenes – the game has a tendency to lock up, forcing you to close out and relaunch the game. As such, do not rush through dialogue too quickly. The game autosaves enough that if (and when) this does happen, you will never lose too much progress but it's still something to try to avoid.

Also, there's a glitch that causes the game to not want to load but this can be fixed/avoided by disabling the Subtitles (credit to senseiPL for this info).


Walkthrough

Although I'm breaking this up into chapters, note that there is no chapter select in the game, so keep a close eye the trophy list in each step to avoid replaying the game. Also, don't ever press or you will lock yourself out of one of the game-spanning trophies but pressing when you need to play the nose flute is okay.


Step 1: Chapter 1

Chapter 1 involves searching for Laura and recovering the lost fosfos pendant. Remember to speak to every character and avoid pressing .

Step 2: Chapter 2

Chapter 2 involves Laura and Robert escaping the Root Forest. You will spend the majority of time playing as Laura. Remember to speak to every character and avoid pressing .

Step 4: Chapter 4

Chapter 4 involves Robert exploring the secret laboratory in search of Laura's missing father. Remember to speak to every character and avoid pressing .

Step 5: Chapter 5

Chapter 5 is the final chapter of the game and has Robert squaring off with the evil Conroy to try and save the Asposians. Remember to speak to every character and avoid pressing .

Step 6: Casual-Gamer and Cleanup

Start a new game to clean up any trophies you may have missed the first time around. You need to start a new game and play for long enough to unlock Casual-Gamer (you should be able to get it on the first screen of the game); see that trophy for more information.

    Unlock all trophies to officially earn the prestigious title "". With this title you'll be able to contribute to the next edition of said encyclopedia as you proofed your deep knowledge of the asposian world and its inhabitants.

  • Chapter 1 - The quest for the Silver Fosfos

     

    Complete the first chapter!

    Story related and cannot be missed.

    This will unlock after the cutscene where Laura and Robert escape in Laura's rocket.

  • Chapter 2 - The Secret Place in the Root Forest

     

    Complete the second chapter!

    Story-related and cannot be missed.

    This will unlock after Laura cuts Robert down and they leave the Root Forest together.

  • Chapter 3 - The Abandoned Dynasty

     

    Complete the third chapter!

    Story-related and cannot be missed.

    This will unlock after Robert plays the full song in the Wind Temple.

  • Chapter 4 - The Secret of the Basylians

     

    Complete the fourth chapter!

  • Blabbermouth

     

    Talk to every possible character in Asposia.

    Thankfully, there aren't actually that many characters to talk to in the game but this is still a trophy you'll need to pay a bit of attention to. Most of the characters you will need to talk to to progress through the story but there are some you are able to talk to (you won't be able to actually converse with them so it doesn't take much time). Below is a breakdown by chapter:

    Chapter 1 – Garbage Dealer, Asposian mother, Wind Fountain Square guard, Sin-O-Mat, guest in Staggering Fosfos, sleeping guest in Staggering Fosfos, Wind Monk Maleus, Wooloof, Ottilie, Detze, imprisoned tailor, Loge Guest at Mechatre Hall.

    Chapter 2 – Gorf (as Robert), Robert, Gorf (as Laura), Aerologists

    Chapter 3 – Laura, Gorfina, Steve, Steve/Pete, fire beetles

    Chapter 4 – Hangar guard, parakeet, lab entrance guard, Reminepo, Fonk, weird guy

    Chapter 5 – Steve, Steve/Pete, Conroy

    The trophy will not unlock until the credits roll.

  • Mr Wise-Guy

     

    Complete the game without taking hints from the help system. In other words: don’t press L2.

    Self-explanatory. Never press . Pressing once brings up the option to unlock hints, while pressing afterwards actually unlocks the hint. I'm not certain if just bringing up the option will negate the trophy so it's best to just avoid the button entirely.

    Whenever you're playing the nose flute, you have the option to press to play a note but that's fine and should be the only time you use the button.

  • Schnapps-Dealer

     

    Find some alcohol in the garbage and try to palm it off on the garbage dealer.

    In Chapter 1, you will find a bottle of alcohol. You need to use it to subdue the worm but prior to doing that, give it to the nearby Garbage Dealer to unlock this trophy.

  • Fresh Breath

     

    Eat a mint!

    In Chapter 1 you need to confess a sin to the Sin-O-Mat but whenever you do, it will give you a breath mint. When the mint is in your inventory, use it, and Robert will eat it, unlocking the trophy. Make sure to get another one before moving on, as you will need the mint for story progression.

    Note that you can still unlock this trophy after destroying the Sin-O-Mat machine, as you will still be able to access the mints despite the machine no longer working.

  • Master of Stirring

     

    Stir the swamp!

    In Chapter 2, Laura will need to recover a pair of glasses from the swamp. Pick up a reed from next to the swamp and use it with the spot she was told to search and you will unlock the trophy. This must be done before actually retrieving the glasses.

  • Gorf-Scratcher

     

    Scratch the Gorf’s head!

    In Chapter 2, while talking to Gorf, you will learn that he has a dry-spot on the top of his head. Use the hook (obtained from Robert) to scratch Gorf's head but this must be done before transferring the flies to Gorf's head.

  • The Royal Toilet

     

    Hand over brown guest passes to Steve!

    In Chapter 3, Robert will come into possession of guest passes for the destroyed palace. Ultimately, you want to make these passes gold by combining pins, a tassel, a gold carpet, a jump rope and using colored moths to dye the tickets. Neglect to use the gold carpet (so the moths are brown) and you will end up with brown tickets to give to Steve but this must be done before presenting Steve with the golden passes.

  • Casanova Casonostri

     

    Gift flowers to Gorfelina!

    In Chapter 3, the inner courtyard of the ruined palace has a flowerbed. These flowers are needed for story progression but before using them in the cookie mold, go back to the front gate of the area and try to give them to Gorfina.

 

Secret trophies

  • Casual-Gamer

     

    Until now, you’ve been using the help system quite often. You’re a casual-gamer for sure! But hey, the main point is, you’re having fun! And you get one point for being casual. Congrats!

    Do this in a brand new game. Press and to unlock hints. Keep pressing until you have run out of hints, then do a single action needed to progress so the game autosaves. Check the hints again and more should be available to you. You should be able to unlock this on the first screen before you even capture the pigeon.

  • Pigeon-Tunnel

     

    You put the pigeon through your special windsock-pigeon-tunnel. Although you couldn’t catch it this way… nice try!

    In Chapter 1, Robert will need to catch a pigeon. Near the pigeon is a windsock. Once you've gotten the pigeon to land on the ground, use the windsock with the pigeon to unlock this trophy. This must be done before you tie the windsock to make a net.

  • King of Sins

     

    You thoroughly talked to Ottilie about sins. Your pure soul is a just a tiny bit more corrupted now.

    In Chapter 1, you will need to talk to Ottilie the barmaid about sins. For story progression, you only need to talk to her about her worst sin. For this trophy, you will also need to ask about her newest sin and Robert's sin (i.e. finish the rest of the conversation options).

  • Trial and Error

     

    You solved the Mechatre-Puzzle just by trying out things randomly… or by ingenious intuition!

    Near the end of Chapter 1, you will need to solve a puzzle to open a trapdoor below the stage. There are stage plans near the control panel you can look at to figure out the solution but don't look at them or you will lock yourself out of the trophy.

    Solution: 4-Family (green) / 4-Backdrop (blue) / 3-Basylian (orange) / 3-Conroy (purple). Move the dial first, then set the number.

  • Brainteaser

     

    You smashed a fruit from the tree with your funnel helmet!

    In Chapter 2, Robert will find a helmet among the ruins of Laura's rocketship. Nearby is a tree that drops fruit when you click on it. Put on the helmet and use the tree to unlock this trophy. This must be done before using the tumble mouse to pad the helmet.

  • Windfall

     

    A fruit from the tree fell down on the ground. Great work.

    In Chapter 2, once you have the fruit in your inventory, walk to the right and use the fruit with the traps to unlock this trophy but it must be done before punching holes in the fruit.

  • Suicide

     

    It’s not the best idea to return an old, trigger-happy wind monk’s glasses, who, even though he’s blind, is able to aim surprisingly good at you.

    In Chapter 2, Laura will need to fish a pair of glasses out of the swamp. Once they're in her inventory, return to the tree house and try to give them back to Pandur the blind Wind Monk but this must be done before using the glasses to find the scream ant.

  • Hedgehog- Anesthesia

     

    You tried to put Fonk to sleep using K.O.-drops. That’s understandable, for he’s the nightmare of your youth.

    In Chapter 4, Robert will find himself back in Conroy's throne room. In a nearby medical cabinet he will find knock-out drops. Use the knock-out drops on the Conroy puppet already in his inventory and feed it to Fonk but this must be done before covering the Conroy puppet in "powdered sugar".

  • Chief of BBQ

     

    Congratulations! You made sure Dr. Reminepo was getting so many electric shocks that his brain’s probably toast now.

    In Chapter 4, Robert will find the missing Dr. Reminepo. Every time you speak to him, a weird guy will electrocute him. Speak to Reminepo two or three times to unlock this trophy but it must be done before knocking out the weird guy.

  • Just a scratch

     

    You just shot a healing-laser in the back of Asposia’s greatest despot. A really disputable achievement. Nevertheless: 20 points, just for you!

    In Chapter 5, Robert will face off with Conroy. Ultimately, you will need to use the Basylian's gaze to petrify him. However, the Basylian that can hit him only has a de-petrifying gaze. Simply neglect to switch the Basylian's eyes before confronting Conroy to unlock this trophy.
