The Dwarves is a simplistic RPG adventure game set in the world of Girdlegard. This is a different world from Tolkien or Dungeons & Dragons. I say simplistic because there really isn't much "level up" customization to be done and the maximum level is only 10. It is single player only.

This game is a good candidate for a future PS Plus monthly free game slot as it only takes around 10-20 hours to complete. You can quickly skip any visual or textual cut scene, even on a first playthrough, and someone who didn't care about any story and went straight for trophies might hit the 10 hour mark providing they play on Easy and hardly ever fail a step. The more realistic range is 16-20 hours. There was only one spot that gave me some trouble, mainly because I wasn't sure what to do at first, and that's the only reason I gave it a difficulty rating of 3.

While there are three difficulty settings (Easy, Medium, and Hard), none of the trophies are affected by the game difficulty so by all means play on Easy if you want. Additionally, if you happen to fail a battle and reach a game over screen there is a Restart option that you can use without any sort of adverse trophy affects.

There is no ability to grind for experience or replay previous areas. As such, there are quite a few missable trophies in this game and thus I strongly recommend that you are liberal with your game saves while you play. All missable trophies will be highlighted in red in the road map.

Before you start, you definitely want to download the latest update patch for the game. So far patch 1.01 has been released and it fixes quite a few performance issues.

Normally I don't provide an exact order for trophies on the road to platinum, but for this game I do strongly recommend that you follow the order below as it definitely looks to be the most efficient use of your time.

Start a new game and as soon as you can control your character, open the Settings menu and change the difficulty to Easy. It does make a notable difference.

Single Playthrough
Play through the game on Easy

Proceed through the main story while grabbing these missable trophies along the way:

Victory and Defeat
Hairy Situation
A warm bed

Making Friends
Lifesaver
Orcslayer
Light into Darkness
Skilled Bargain
Bargain like a Boss
Justice

Ambush

Immediately after the last trophy I recommend focusing on the following trophy as it really can only be earned in 3 locations. This is the first (and easiest) location for this trophy:

Not a scratch

Warning: Make sure that you obtain all missable trophies listed above before you enter into Ogre's Death fortress as that is a point of no return for this map layout.

Ogre's Death fortress
Silvertongue
Wayfarer

This is your second chance (of three) to unlock the Not a scratch trophy if you have not already done so.

Sympathetic
Righteous
A Feast like no other
The greatest Battle
- As part of this trophy this is your third and last chance to unlock the Not a scratch trophy if you have not already done so.

Warning: Make sure that you obtain all missable trophies listed above before you unlock East Ironhald as that is a point of no return for this map layout.

East Ironhald
Liberator
What needs to be done
A single Life
Footsore

Warning: Make sure that you obtain all missable trophies listed above before you unlock
Legendary Halls as that is a point of no return for the entire game.

Legendary Halls
Keenfire
Old Enemies
Demon

You should have earned these trophies before the end of the game:

As good as it gets
Oink, oink

If you have not unlocked all trophies by this point, unfortunately there is no way you can perform clean-up other than reloading old game saves or starting a new game. There is also no NewGame+.

Once all individual trophies are out of the way, the King of the Dwarves trophy will be yours.

34 trophies ( 14  15  )

  • You did it!

This unlocks after collecting all of the other trophies.

  • You have won the battle, but lost the war

Story related and cannot be missed.

This is a short tutorial section whereby the trophy will unlock during the loading screen that will appear after the final cut scene.

  • You got away from your encounter with the woodcutters without a scratch

    Missable

This trophy is missable because you can permanently fail the "without a scratch" condition. This is a dialog choice and has nothing to do with visual combat.

Right after you start your journey you will be shown a map screen where you can decide where you want to go. Five movements away is a floating gold question mark that signifies a quest marker. This is the woodcutters camp. This is one possible dialog path to unlock this trophy: Choose the second dialog option 5 times in a row then end with option 1 that says "I thought so". The trophy will unlock at the same time that you will see the experience added to your character. The experience amount is the same regardless of outcome.

  • Your silvertongue has procured a cozy bed in Goodwater for you

    Missable

This trophy is missable because you can choose the wrong dialog options thereby voiding the trophy. As part of the story you will be required to pass through Goodwater. When you arrive it will be dark. Perform these steps:

    • Run all the way up to the gate so that you can "Look at the gate". Do not speak with the guards yet.
    • After that is done, now talk to the guards.
    • Dialog choice #1: both dialog options work.
    • Dialog choice #2: Since you inspected the gate, a second dialog option will be available that states that the gate is not very stable. Choose this option.
    • Dialog choice #3: option 2 that mentions High Pass defence.

The trophy will unlock during the dialog cut scene that follows whereby you "had a good rest".

  • Boïndil and Boëndal have joined you

Story related and cannot be missed.

As part of the story you will be required to stop at a map location named Encampment with Oak which is one move after the village of Goodwater. You must choose dialog option 3 for the game to continue. A battle will commence and naturally you must survive. It's a simple battle and the dialog choices that occur do not hinder the progress of this trophy. When it is all over you will eventually be shown a level up screen. The trophy will unlock at this screen.

  • You have saved a village from an orc army

    Missable

    See Orcslayer

  • You have managed the impossible and saved three villages from the orcs

    Missable

This trophy is missable because it is not guaranteed that you will reach any of the three villages in time. The villages necessary for this trophy will have an orc horde in them plus you will see a day counter underneath the city. That is how many turns/days you have left to save the village before it is destroyed. Even though the trophy description is vague, I am fairly certain this trophy is specific to the villages of Axledale, Goodwater, and Scalebrook. Perform these steps:

    1. Do all the steps required for the A warm bed trophy in Goldwater.
    2. Follow the story steps for Making Friends.
    3. When you return to the map screen there will now be dark brown chess-like pieces on the map that signify orc hordes.
    4. Go to Axledale and defeat this orc horde to defend village #1.
    5. You will unlock Lifesaver during the loading screen that occurs at the conclusion of the battle.
    6. Go to Goodwater to defend village #2.
    7. Go to Scalebrook and defend village #3 to unlock Orcslayer.

If successful, Orcslayer will unlock at the level up screen that you see at the conclusion of the third village defense.

  • You have discovered the secret fortress of the Thirdlings in Blacksaddle

    Missable

This trophy is missable because it requires you to perform a specific action before you leave the Blacksaddle location for once you leave you can never come back. Simply finding the cave does not count; you have to figure out who it used to belong to.

The main story requires you to find Gören's cave. Inside of this cave you must go to his workbench to progress the story. However, sitting on this table is a blue flame item referred to as the Eternal Flame that you can pick up. Do so and then find the nearby wall within the cave that has 3 large rune tablets on the wall. The act of lighting the brazier in front of these 3 runes causes them to be ringed in fire, a small cut scene to occur, and the trophy to unlock.

  • You have bargained skilfully and receive more money from the smith

    Missable

While there is more than one dialog path that will unlock this trophy, if you follow the steps for Bargain like a Boss you will also unlock this trophy at the same time.

  • Thanks to your skill the smith has doubled his offer

    Missable

This trophy is missable because it requires a very specific dialog option path to satisfy the requirements. Here are the steps:

    1. Head to Fallowston on the map which automatically will begin a dialog
    2. Dialog choice #1: option 3 - you want better pay
    3. Dialog choice #2: option 2 - you want double
    4. Dialog choice #3: option 2 - tell him you will leave

The trophy will unlock during the following textual conversation that occurs as the smith agrees to pay you double.

  • You have avenged the trader Mort

    Missable

This trophy is missable because it is an optional quest and once you get too far in the story it will be gone forever. Here are the steps:

    1. Head to Fallowston on the map which automatically will begin a dialog.
    2. The choices that you choose in Fallowston are not important for this trophy but you will want to do specific choices for Bargain like a Boss.
    3. You may have noticed the Dwarf Merchant chess piece moving around during turns. After you conclude your visit to Fallowston it will no longer be moving. Go to this location.
    4. Go through all dialog options then notice there are now 2 new quest markers on the map.
    5. Proceed North-West to the closest quest marker to initiate a dialog conversation. The choices made here have no influence on the quest outcome.
    6. Continue North-West to the next quest marker that is located on Klinntal to initiate another dialog. While your choices here won't void the trophy, it will make the fight easier.
    7. Dialog choice #1: option 1.
    8. Dialog choice #2: any option.
    9. Dialog choice #3: option 3.
    10. Begin battle
    11. You can fight three sets of 5 enemies at a time so don't wander too far forward to engage the other enemies.

The trophy will unlock once the fight has concluded and you are going through the text cut scenes that follow.

  • You have survived Nôd'onns ambush at the vaults

Story related and cannot be missed.

I found this one to be a bit of a pain and requires a bit of luck to successfully pull off. Progress through the main story until you are told to return to where you started the game. Once you are back there is a first battle where you must defeat 30 enemies before fleeing through the greenish hued doorway.

This moves into a second battle where you only have two goals: retrieve what is yours then escape! The first step is easy but getting your entire team to the exit can be difficult. The final goal is to get all 3 team members across the bridge without any of them falling or else it is game over. Utilizing the Leap Attack and Cleave abilities does come in very handy for escaping as it creates a temporary berth for you to run through. Run all 3 as far into the green mist as you can whereby eventually the battle will come to an end. Unfortunately I did not find the use of (tell other 2 team members to come to your position) very helpful for this struggle as too many enemies were in the way.

The trophy will unlock during the level up screen.

  • You have reached Ogre's Death fortress

Story related and cannot be missed.

    1. After unlocking Ambush head straight for Ogre's Death fortress
    2. On the way you will be forced into a canyon battle. Complete this battle with no heroes falling and then continue on your way.
    3. Shortly after there will be an oasis at Pasgnârr. You should save before moving to this map location as doing so will begin a boss battle.
    4. Perform an all-out offensive on the boss and ignore everything else. Blacksmith's Blow and Mighty Blow work really well.
    5. Proceed to Ogre's Death. Note that there is a graphical map glitch (with the latest patch) that makes it hard to select these last two locations at the edge of the mountain. Move the cursor around until you see the visually appear.

The trophy will unlock during the loading screen as you enter the fortress.

  • You have answered all three questions after your speech perfectly

    Missable

This trophy is missable because you can choose the wrong dialog options thereby voiding the trophy.

    1. After reaching Ogre's Death fortress you will be required to meet with the High King.
    2. As the story unfolds you will eventually need to give a speech then answer three questions.
    3. Call up Bislipur and answer with option 3 (he speaks for everyone?).
    4. Call up the Secondling and answer with option 2 (duty to protect everyone).
    5. Call up the Fourthling and answer with option 1 (the Dwarves must act).

The trophy will unlock very shortly after while the High King is still speaking.

  • You've survived the underground railroad and reached Weyurn

Story related and cannot be missed.

The story steps in Ogre's Death fortress are very straightforward. Simply keep the conversations flowing and you will eventually end up back at the map screen whereby this trophy will unlock. None of the dialog options will have any negative consequences so answer however you wish.

  • Giralda has joined your group

    Missable

This trophy is missable because you could make the wrong dialog choice. While it is required that you meet Giralda during the main story, it is not guaranteed that she will join your group. You will encounter her shortly after you leave the town of Mifurdania. When you are eventually given a dialog choice of what to do with her, you must choose to take her with you. The other two choices will void this trophy. The trophy will unlock during the level-up screen.

Note: This trophy is a pre-requisite for What needs to be done and A single Life later on.

  • You have put mercy before justice

    Missable

This trophy is missable because you could make the wrong dialog choices. You should see a gold quest marker on the town of Seaton. Go there to begin a dialog. There is more than one dialog path to this trophy. Personally I recommend investigating to get the full story, but I have included the shortest dialog path below.

    Seaton:

    1. Either option.
    2. Option 2 - talk to the woman.
    3. Option 1 - let the woman go.
    4. Option 3 - mention following her.
    5. Option 1 - send Narmora.
    6. Option 3 - leave Seaton.

Move north one space on the map and Narmora will return. The Thieves' Hideout will be displayed on the map with a quest marker. Go there to begin another dialog.

    1. Exhaust both options to continue to new options
    2. Continue going through all options until you see four new options
    3. Option 3 - ask for the grain to pacify the farmers
    4. Option 3 - ask for the rotten grain

The trophy should unlock immediately after choosing the correct final response at the Thieves' Hideout. You are not required to finish the quest in Seaton.

  • You have awoken the Blind Guardian and celebrated a feast in Wackenstein

    Missable

Note: Either this trophy or The greatest Battle are required for main story progression.

This trophy is missable because you could lock out retrieval of the Fire-Eater Bell quest item by choosing the wrong dialog choices and not having the 500 gold to buy it. Gold is a limited resource in this game.

    1. Go to the Wackenstein location and charge the camp.
    2. Use grenades to close all cave openings.
    3. Defeat the remaining enemies.
    4. Free the prisoner then exhaust all dialog options with him.
    5. One of the items he asks for is Herbs which you can find in a nearby tent.
    6. The other two items that you need are an Ox Skull and a Fire-Eater Bell so leave this area and go back to the map.
    7. The Ox Skull is retrieved by defeating the roaming Orc Horde brownish chess piece that you will see moving on the map.
    8. The Fire-Eater Bell is retrieved from the Viransiénsis map location. Either hand over 500 gold or use the following dialog choices to acquire in a different manner:
      1. Option 2 - Go to the Collector's house.
      2. Option 1 - I heard you have a rare bell!
      3. either options works.
      4. Option 3 - Send Rodario to the Collector's house.
      5. Option 2 - Make note of the Hydrangeas.
      6. Option 1 - Greenish-Blue.
    9. Head back to Wackenstein.
    10. Place the Ox Skull on the wood pyre in the middle of the area then set it on fire.
    11. On a raised ledge next to the large statue is a rope where you can attach the Fire-Eater Bell and then ring it.
    12. Throw the Herbs into the Fire Bowl that is next to the statue.
    13. This will unlock the map path during the textual conclusion.

The trophy will unlock at the end of the dialog conclusion text while you are at the map screen.

  • You have vanquished the biggest enemy camp

    Missable

This trophy is missable because you could choose the A Feast like no other map path and never go through the Orc Camp. Once you leave this map area you cannot return.

Note #1: Either this trophy or A Feast like no other are required for main story progression.

Note #2: This is also an excellent spot to unlock Not a scratch if you wish.

While the village recruits are optional I recommend grabbing them to make the upcoming battle easier:

    1. Go to the Torbrook village and begin a dialog.
    2. Option 3 - Help with repairs.
    3. Option 1 - Help for free.
    4. Option 1 - Automatic brakes.
    5. Option 1 - Ask Militia to follow you.
    6. Option 2 - Ask about the Orcs.
    7. Option 2 - Withdraw.
    8. Go to the Thieves' Hideout and begin a dialog.
    9. Option 1 - Need help against Orcs.
    10. Return to the Torbrook village and begin a dialog.
    11. Option 1 - Ask Militia to follow you.
    12. Option 1 - Go through the mine.
    13. Option 2 - Infiltrate the camp.
    14. Option 1 - Attack the camp.

The key to victory is controlling how many enemies are attacking you. Progress through the area as slow as possible to minimize opposition. Note that you can use Leap to reach normally unreachable archer platforms. Make it a priority to clear the beginning of the area so that you can retreat to here and fully regenerate health if necessary. The trophy will unlock during the loading screen that appears when you complete the battle.

  • You have reached the fortress of the Firstlings

Story related and cannot be missed.

    1. Head towards the Wall of the Firstling Stronghold which will have a large main quest marker above it.
    2. There are two map locations where you can enter this snowy region: the Orc Camp or Wackenstein. Only one is necessary to enter but both can be unlocked. See A Feast like no other and The greatest Battle
    3. I did not investigate all paths so make a save before you cross the snowy area.
    4. Head across the snowy area and when dialog options appear, choose the safest options to continue.
    5. Once you reach the quest marker a visual cut scene will run.
    6. Afterwards a textual cut scene will play out.
    7. Finally you will be shown the interior of the fortress.

The trophy will unlock while a choir is singing during a cinematic view of the fortress interior.

  • You have saved a dwarf from the experiments of the Älfar

    Missable

This trophy is missable because you could skip this optional quest and not be able to get back to it.

    1. Continue through the main story until you reach the map location where the Fifthling's Stronghold is your next target.
    2. Instead of going there, head towards the first gold quest market located at Leahill.
    3. Answer the dialog options here however you wish and then proceed to the next gold quest marker to the North.
    4. Complete the battle that ensues.
    5. Investigate the area and eventually find a map that updates your game map with a new quest location. Exit this area.
    6. You should now see another quest marker to the South-West labeled as the Älfar Camp. Go there.
    7. Complete the battle that ensues after some dialog.

The trophy will unlock when the battle completes and the level-up screen is shown.

  • You have killed Giralda and maybe averted great disaster

    Missable

This trophy and A single Life are the results of a choice you must make concerning Giralda. You cannot obtain both at the same time, but you can reload a game save and then make the opposite choice to unlock both trophies. The trophy Liberator does all of the steps necessary to find the Älfin camp so unlock that trophy first and then come back here. Once you are within the Älfin camp:

    1. Find Giralda; she should be next to an Älf body.
    2. Search the body to find a potion recipe.
    3. Save the game!
    4. Find the alchemy table and select it which will bring you to a dialog choice.
    5. Select option 2 to have Andôkai mix the poison and then select the subsequent option 2 to give Giralda the poison to unlock What needs to be done
    6. Reload your game save
    7. Select option 2 to have Andôkai mix the poison and then select the subsequent option 1 to give Giralda the potion to unlock A single Life

You could keep either trophy as part of your main story playthrough as this ends this side quest line.

  • You let Giralda escape and maybe saved the world that way

    Missable

See What needs to be done

  • You have entered king Giselbeards legendary halls in the Gray Range

Story related and cannot be missed.

    1. Proceed with the main story until you unlock Wayfarer.
    2. Head to the Fifthling's Stronghold.
    3. Just before you arrive there will be an ambush. Complete the battle and continue. Watch the edges as it is really easy to knock one of your own allies off.

The trophy will unlock just shortly after the scene loads inside of the fortress.

  • You have forged Keenfire and given hope to the world

Story related and cannot be missed.

While you cannot manually save between the consecutive battles but there will be auto-saves between battles that you could use should the game crash.

    1. Just after you enter the Fifthling's Stronghold stronghold you will be in battle.
    2. Battle #1 - Very straightforward; take out a specific number of enemies.
    3. Battle #2 - Take out the wizard quickly or else stay out of the golem's reach while you whittle away on the attackers.
    4. Battle #3 - After the initial rush, slow down and take your time. Make sure to take advantage of health regen.
    5. At this point you can move around and talk with people. For me the scene advanced after speaking with the Fifthling King.
    6. Battle #4 - When facing the large door, there is a switch to the left that you can activate. Doing so will slam the door shut. Afterwards, dispense of remaining enemies.
    7. At the end of this battle will be a short cut scene.

The trophy will unlock immediately after the short cut scene that shows a Dwarf holding the new axe.

  • You have defeated Sinthoras and Bislipur

Story related and cannot be missed.

    1. Not long after you unlock Keenfire you will engage in battle with Sinthoras.
    2. After that is done, go on the full offensive against Sinthoras. This whole fight is about his defeat so the faster the better.
    3. Optionally you can take out the horn blowers to prevent reinforcements.
    4. I found Andôkai's Blast skill extremely helpful in this battle.
    5. Upon his defeat you will move to battle #2 against Bislipur.
    6. This fight is very straightforward and is much easier than the first fight.

The trophy will unlock shortly after Bislipur's defeat around the same time that the level-up screen appears.

  • You have killed the demon that possessed Nôd'onn with Keenfire

Story related and cannot be missed.

    1. This begins immediately after Old Enemies.
    2. Battle #1 - You have to protect Narmora and Tungdil. The goal is to get Narmora to the swirling green mist exit but doing that will require you to defeat most, if not all, of the enemies. Even though that exit is really close, there are a great deal of enemies near it when you begin. If a Hero is near death, park them behind some NPC allies. Personally I spammed Andôkai's Blast and Scorch skills for AoE damage. Her Chain Healing was also extremely helpful.
    3. Battle #2: 1st Goal - Just sprint to the axe. You only have to get near it to continue.
    4. Battle #2: 2nd Goal - Throw everything you have against Bislipur (again).
    5. Battle #2: 3rd Goal - Defeat Nôd'onn and forget everything else. I managed to defeat him in one shot using Damage Boost + Blacksmith's Blow.

The trophy will unlock during the loading screen that follows Nôd'onn's defeat.

  • You have spent 200 days on your great journey

It is not impossible to miss this trophy but it is pretty close. Each time you move a position on the map this counts as one day. You can go back and forth as much as you wish. Your days are tracked at the top right of your map screen. If you are going for all trophies then you will get this trophy without even trying. Personally I unlocked it before I reached the fortress of the Firstlings. See East Ironhald

The trophy will unlock immediately when the top right counter reads 201 on the map screen.

  • You have won a battle without one of your heroes being hurt

    Missable

This trophy is missable because it is really finnicky trophy and getting towards the end of the main story it will be impossible to satisfy its requirements. I only saw 3 decent areas to earn this trophy. While it is normal battle behavior for your health to regenerate as time passes in battle, this does not repair any injuries that your heroes may have sustained. In fact, there is no "in battle" way to check if they have any injuries after they have fully regenerated their health.

I've confirmed that this trophy does require 0 injuries and full health on any single hero that participated in any battle. When at the map screen you can press to see the current health and injuries of all your heroes. Unfortunately this does not work while in a battle.

By far the best place that I saw to earn this trophy was during the main story steps of moving from Lot-Ionan's vault to Ogre's Death fortress. This occurs after unlocking the Ambush trophy. As you move between these two points on the map you will eventually be forced by the story to enter into a battle mode where you are navigating through a canyon area.

The reason this area is great is because you control the pace at which you can progress. It is not a massive swarm of enemies but rather you can pick off small groups by moving at a slow pace. As soon as you enter this area, pick one of your 4 heroes to run all the way back to the entrance and leave that single hero there. Never press the key to summon your heroes forward or this 4th hero will get injuried. Use your remaining 3 heroes to do all of the fighting. Defeat literally every enemy in the area. Once you are sure the area is clear, run all 4 heroes to the greenish mist exit.

If successful the trophy will unlock during the text conversation that occurs as soon as the last hero enters the green mist. It should unlock before the loading screen occurs.

There are really only two other decent areas for this trophy:

    • Shortly after you reach Weyurn one of the random points as you proceed will have another battle just like this.
    • See The greatest Battle
  • You have upleveled a character to level 10

Story related and cannot be missed.

While there is no way to grind for experience in this game, there is no way you can complete the game without at least one hero achieving level 10 through normal main story experience. The trophy will unlock at any level-up screen where any hero reaches level 10.

  • You have killed 1000 enemies in battle

    Missable

If you are going for the platinum trophy, then you will not miss this trophy as there are plenty of enemies to unlock this trophy. Personally, I unlocked this trophy before I unlocked Legendary Halls (which is near the end of the game).

However, this trophy definitely is missable if you run past all of the optional side quests and only do the main quest progression. There is no way to grind enemies at the end game or go back to previous areas. So don't skip stuff!

The trophy unlocks immediately once you have hit the mark. Unfortunately there is no in-game way to track the progress of this trophy.

Note: I should mention that the A Feast like no other trophy has a battle where the enemies appear to be infinite, that is until you perform a specific action. You could always slow down the infinite stream to a level you can handle and then grind away until the trophy unlocks. In fact, I would recommend a save file here just in case you do not unlock this trophy before you complete the main story.
